After deleting an unneeded DVD+RW mountlist from devs:DOSdrivers suddenly my CD0: wa unreachable i digged into the recycled files and found the deleted DVD+RW but no there was no eject.os4 stopped working. 1.Amiga OS 4:> appdir:eject.os4 CD0: device (or volume) is not mounted
I renamed the ICDO mountlist in devs:DOSdrivers ehect still gives the same error
Maybe after reboot?
trying now wel no, after reboot CD0 exists 8.Amiga OS 4:> info Mounted disks: Unit Size Used Free Full Errors Status Name APPDIR: 1K 1 0 100% 0 Read Only APPDIR CD0: No disk present
ejectOs4 does not complain but does not work (no ejection)
Any changes to dosdrivers or mountlists (obsolete since 3.1) will not take effect until after a reboot.
Renameing ICD0 won't make any difference to being able to access your DVD drive as you will override it with the diskimage version, they use totally different devices.
DVD+RW is for formatting and writing to RW discs as you would to a harddrive.

@Severin & Chris: thanks The disappearance is caused by AmiDVD usage lijke this:
Did put new DVD RW+ in CD:
6.Amiga OS 4:> info cd0: Mounted disks: Unit Size Used Free Full Errors Status Name CD0: 4 473M 2 290 528 0 100% 0 Read Only DVD_VIDEO_RECORDER
Volumes available: DVD_VIDEO_RECORDER: [Mounted] ; rebooting When checking on ith earlyboot CD0: enabled nonbootable Continuing the boot an icon DVD_VIDEO_RECORDER was present on the workbench
Using info CDO was present showing the same name again eject.OS4 worked
I then used AmiDVD & after selecting the imag file & hit BurnDVD+RW Got an error message SCSI command 2a 00 00 00 01 a0 00 00 20 00 failed sense: 70 00 00 00 00 00 00 0a 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 & burning stopped.
Checking now again 9.Amiga OS 4:> info CD0: Mounted disks: Unit Size Used Free Full Errors Status Name CD0: No disk present and the eject.os4 did not work any more
The same behaviour was observed with a previous new DVD RW+ (exel )
It might be that AmiDVD doesn't uninhibit the filesystem after a failed burn like in your case.
Are you sure that you should be using DVD+RW with your DVD burner? DVD+RW is not the same format as DVD-RW and some drives will support only one and not the other format.
With FryingPan 1.3.2, using the "drive" page & settings Drive 1 Device: sii3512de.device Selecting unit 1 enters the following Unit Vendor Drive 1 ATAPI iHAS124 W i get the following info Vendor, Product , version : no info In the listview beneath -Mechanism: Tray -Reads Media: CD (ROM, R, RW) DVD (RAM, +-R, +-RW) -Burn Proof: unsupported -ISRC: unsupported -Media Catalog NUmber: unsupported -Audio Stream: Accurate -TestMode: unsupported -Multi-session: unspported -CD-text: unsupported -Read Speeds: -Write Speeeds: -Drive status: unregistered
From Media Toolbox i do read Unit Name Version id,LUN Unit type Status ATAPI oHAS124 W HL02 1,0 Removable CD-ROM or CD-RW or DVD Unsupported
This is what i get with a new DVD (non burned) 11.Amiga OS 4:> cd0: 11.DVD_VIDEO_RECORDER:> list all VIDEO_RM Dir ----r-e- 30-Jul-11 18:26:31 VIDEO_TS Dir ----r-e- 02-Dec-11 21:15:05 2 directories - 6 blocks used
-Reads Media: CD (ROM, R, RW) DVD (RAM, +-R, +-RW)
There should be a "writes media" there somewhere.

That's not a new, blank DVD. It's been written to, probably by a standalone DVD recorder.
I am having problems using AmiDVD with + dvd's. It refuses to recognise DVD+RW discs, and blows out when using DVD+R's on anything larger than a couple of hundred MB image.
I see there is a comment about formatting DVD+RW's in the AmiDVD readme, I am presuming this is part of my problem. But what about DVD+R's, and what filesystem do I format the DVD+RW with?
and later: Anyway, after formatting (with FormatCDRW) AmiDVD recognises the DVD+RW.
So i tried to use this program. 11.Amiga OS 4:System> version formatcdrw FormatCDRW 53.1
On clicking the its icon teh gui opens but the left listview is empty, all buttons are ghosted, volume name textin gadget hsays "Emptyy" I tried using DVD_VIDEO_RECORDER: DVD_VIDEO_RECORDER CD0: CD0
Neither amidvd or fryingpan need the DVD+RW dosdriver but Formatcdrw does, you must aslo have fastfilesystem and smartfilesystem in kickstart.
Personally I've always found RW's to be a total waste of time, slow to burn and stop working after a few tries. I just by cheap write once DVD's at about 10p-12p each. It's just not worth the hassle.
Another problem is the drives themselves, now they're a third the price they used to be they're not as reliable as the old ones, lower build quality etc. I find they only last a couple of years before you start getting problems.

@JosDuchIt Just to reiterate what others are saying: The DVD+RW dosdriver is for mounting a CD with an Amiga OS4 filesystem and FormatCDRW is for formatting a CD with an Amiga OS4 filesystem. The system then treats the CD like a giant floppy disk and you can read/write to it like any other disk.
AmiDVD writes an ISO9660 image to the DVD/CD. The resulting ISO9660 DVD/CD is read only. However, according to the AmiDVD readme, DVD+RW must be formatted before AmiDVD can burn to them. I'm guessing that AmiDVD needs a DVD+RW to be formatted so it can tell the size of the media it is writing to but I'm not sure.

ISO image Burning: - Doesn't support multi-session. - DVD+RWs have to be formatted, but it doesn't support formatting them. For new DVD+RWs you have to mount DVD+RW: and use FormatCDRW for formatting instead.

That's certainly not what i need. i am trying to burn a LiveCD ubuntu distro from its image for my PClaptop, so i can partition my new external HD as i want (usable for different computers Ipad, PC SAM's)
I am close to thinking there is a HW problem? Other checks i could do ?
Yes but it is one of a new set i bought, all have the same content.
I'd be slightly concerned if I'd bought a batch of new RWs, and found they already have some video on them. What is the video? Have you tried playing it?

@chris thanks for suggestions I checked the video's and discovered they are commercial advertising. The DVD's are not new anyway but a few years old, as can be seen from the advertisement's content
I have used Frying Pan to format such a DVD - a quick format did not help info CD0: did not show the disk to be present - a complete format worked
I then tried to burn the (large) iso image with AmiDVD: it stopped at 10% When closing i did notice: 7.Amiga OS 4:> appdir:amidvd SCSI command 2a 00 00 00 02 e0 00 00 20 00 failed sense: 70 00 00 00 00 00 00 0a 00 00 00 00 04 04 00 80 1b 5f
I also noted that i couldn't reformat the +RW DVD's that failed in burning. I guess this will be the case again with this last burn.
My guess is that AmiDVD is not checking the size before burning and accepts sizes it can't handle

@Severin, i don't succed in burning a dvd with amidvd, maybe i neverd did & confounded burning a CD
The fact that i am able to destroy the video content of +RW dvd's with amidvd seeming to be able to erase and format "complete" (sometimes, not always) with fryingpan not complaining seems to indicate to me that the drive is ok mechanically. I certainly was able to burn OS4.1 with it (but this was a CD iso image. It is recognised as being able to write dvd's
I would like to ask - is AmiDVD working ok for anybody with SAM460ex & OS4.1 update 6 - Can anybody point out how to burn from an ISO image writh FryingPan - Is makeCD able to burn DVD's
