Missing SLB with new Sii card

Not sure if this is a hardware or software issue. . . but the problem has changed some from the previous thread.

I recently replaced my ailing Sii3112 with a Sii3114 SATA card. UBOOT now comes up saying it can't find any SLB unless I boot from the VIA PATA 4.1FE CD.

I have re-installed the SLB on both hard drives several times now, but to no avail. Is this really a problem with the SLB, or do 3114's not boot with an A1-XE? Once booted from the 4.1 CD, the hard drives show up on the Workbench and are accessible.

It's an age since my XE was working , but I seem to remeber when I installed a sii card I had to set a uboot variable to switch the booting to that card, other wise it would not see it.

U-Boot on the AmigaOne XE supports booting from a 3112 and 3114 SATA controller. The 3512 is basically a revisited 3112, but U-Boot on the XE doesn't know it.
I can confirm that the A1 XE G4 will NOT boot from a 3114. Tried it, Uboot doesn't see it. I've tried to find a cheap 3112 card here in the USA, but not getting anywhere. Seems a lot of the manufacturers have moved on to a newer chipset.

So if somebody means to use 3 SATA devices of which one boots they end up with two cards (and possibly 6 ports). Or does that work?

I found some 3112's on eBay and ordered two. But my XE is now packed up awaiting a move to a new home. Hopefully in a month or so, I can be back to using an Amiga.
