While you may not see all the memory in the OS, the Radeon HD render manager provides access to memory above 256MB for storage of textures and other data. That's the plan, but the code for that hasn't been written yet.
I'm rather annoyed to hear that people are having out-of-VRAM crashes, as the RadeonHD_RM.resource has a VRAM paging system. And yes,
it does work . Maybe a graphics library update changed things...

The vram crash happened so far in Urban terror and Acquaria. Running them in window mode you can watch gfxdock filling up, then system lockup.

@Hans They are probably using the v1.9 of 3D drivers, could be that the issue?

Urban Terror does not like 32bit colour depth in game. Change it to 16 bit.
My settings are:
Warp3D.SI 1.9
Company map
16bit colour depth
32bit textures
normal textures
Fullscreen 800x600, 1024x768, 1280x1024 and 1920x1080 all tested well.
some sprite corruption on the HUD.
Game plays very well. Fast, but lonely with no one to kill ;)
32.1 FPS 1280x1024 using this timedemo that I recorded:

@Spectre660 Glad it worked. The tutorial didn't work as a timedemo for me. Can you try my timedemo so we get a comparison? Thanks.

@ddni
Your timedemo doesn't work with my 9250 (I've got an error message: CL-ReadDemMessage: demoMsglen MAX_MSGLEN).
Edit : OK, to download your file, we have to give our mail adress and wait for the download link. Not really simple

@Hans Any chance to get Warp3D working on Radeon9800 or 9600? They can be a great step on from Radeon9000pro on my Pegasos2(and not only mine) and no HD boards are allowed here :(

@ddni It's not just Urban Terror. For some reason MiniGL won't work in 32-bit fullscreen modes. I had to add a hack to OpenJK to use 24-bit instead. I'll try to look into the issue, maybe it's easy to fix.
This is just like television, only you can see much further.
