Issues with 4.1FE

I upgraded to 4.1 FE on my X1000, but I now have no sound. Even booting into 4.1.6 still has no sound. Also, the context menus for Fast Zip are gone. Additionally I cannot seem to get an SSD to be recognized (Media Wizard partions it, saves the FS, but I cannot rename the volumes, nor do they show on WB).

Has anyone else had similar issues, if so, did you fix them, and how?

Do you have upgraded FastCompress to the latest zTools version ?
I added support for FE in the latest versions available on AMIStore (since november 2014)

Have you done anything to set up AHI under the new system?

Probably the easiest way is to simply copy over the ahi.prefs file from your old SYS:Prefs/Env-Archive/Sys/ to the new one. I'm assuming you have the necessary driver files in Devs/AHI and Devs/AudioModes - if you don't have a very special sound card, you probably will, but if it still doesn't work, try comparing those between your old and your new system partitions.

In general, expect any settings from your old system which you made yourself, or which were made by program installers, to be missing in the newly installed system. You have to copy them over or make them again; this is probably also true with your ContextMenu entry for FastZip.

Regarding ContextMenu, since version 54.1 a new configuration parameter has been introduced: an icon, which is rendered in front of an item.

Yes, so when the custom entry is copied over from the old file, the extra parameter has to be created at the start of the line. It doesn't have to contain anything, so adding a comma at the start would suffice.

OK, school's over. I just got the SSD to recognize, I had to re-save the config on the previous HD. I'm trying to use the onboard sound card for audio.

Have got sounds back, still issues with fonts always initalizing on load for OWB. I know there's instructions to correct that on this site, just need to find 'em. Booting off the SSD as we ll.

For font reloading issue, with Odyssey closed, go to your Oddysey drawer and then to 'Conf/font' ('Odyssey/Conf/font') and delete the .cache-2/.cache-2.NEW files.
And re-run Odyssey, it should rescan fonts just once.

BTW you can check (in same drawer) the 'fonts.conf' file if you have this line well "ended" ('</dir>')

Look in Odyssey conf/font dir, there should be the cache file with .NEW appended to the filename. Delete the older file and rename the remaining to that same name.

For Odyssey, as Thematic says, just rename or delete your Odyssey/conf/fonf dir
