I had seen it (the corruption that is) in some videos as well when I was testing the patches, I always ran the regression tests to make sure they passed but it's possible the tests did not cover all corner cases. Could you point to some online videos that I could test to see which patch is the culprit in this case?

We have problems with some mkv videos, slight stuttering of all videos and tearing at the top video area . Any idea?

MP4 files have this problem, WEBM not anymore (works correctly) with the latest version.

As already written on page 22, webm doesn't function well with comp_yuv but works well with comp.

Did you tried the 3 videos that I linked above ?

tested with latest beta from yesterday. Same corruptions for MP4 and WEBM

@davebraco

Yes, I know, but it will be nice than Feanor and/or LiveForIt find the bug about WEBM.

Webm is not a codec format, It's a container format.

The codec is ffvp8, the problem is that the codec, thinks it supports direct rendering, but it does not allocate direct rendering buffer, video output think ffvp8 does not support direct rendering because no buffers where allocated.

Just fixed NODRI video output option.

And in case of mplayer used with yuv2, is it possible that you automatically switch to comp if a webm is detected ?
It will avoid to have to change the command line depending of the video ?

Thx

comp is slower then comp_yuv2:nodri
So no that does not make sense.

Webm is container format, so if a different codec is used in webm, then it won't use DRI.

Sorry, I don't understand, except to use always "-vo comp", is there a solution to watch 100% sure webm containers ?

I tested above webm and mp4 with "-vo comp_yuv2:nodri" on latest 6.5.4 beta. Not better.

Is this future available fix, correct these problems ?

OK, so what's going, has Feanor contacted anyone, is he working on fixing the issues? I have not seen any change or update on his repository!

Should we forget about FFMPEG2.5 from Feanor, and use FFMPEG2.2 or use FFMPEG2.6 instead?

Only you can say which version is the best for us. Take the best version, which works with all videos and have no tearing. I got the money from bountysource. You will get it as soon as the betatest is done and all betatester give an OK

For me at moment LiveforitMPlayer6.4 is the best version.
Only missing menu, 64 Bit fix etc.

Well, normally when there is more than one version people actively working on, there is usually a reason for it.

As I have not tried to use 2.6 I don't know a lot about it, but what I know is the movie codecs are the newest.

2.2.x has work well in the past as you point out, and it's my experience at least that FFMPEG gets more bloated for etch version, anyway I don't know how well 2.6 compares, unless I compile it.

In any case if FFmpeg 2.6.3 "Grothendieck" sucks, we can easy go back to 2.2.x

So in other words, adding the menus, made MPlayer worse for you, at least compared to mplayer6.5, this two versions use FFMPEG 2.2, that’s the only difference. Yes and 6.5 file is not striped, because you were supposed to give me debug logs, if mplayer crashed. (maybe mplayer takes up your RAM, and you computer starts swapping virtual RAM)

I can easily compile a new version of mplayer with FFMPEG 2.5 without menus, if you like.

Mplayer 6.5.1 and up has used Feanor FFMPEG version 2.5.

MPlayer 6.4 has 64bit file offset support for FFMPEG2.2.
