Odyssey enabling java & local storage

seems to be the reference when it comes to oading, editing & saving files. from the browser, without any webserver.

Under Odyssey it works fine, even when downloaded & used offline.
You have to rename the weird name proposed in the file requester, or the file to be saved (every time) but you don't have to use use tha borwsers save as
Under chrome & firefox Saving as wanted is more straightforward.: the filename of the loaded file is proposed when saving.
The doc states

"The TiddlySaver Java applet allows TiddlyWiki to save changes in a local version (from a file:// URL) of Safari, Opera and other browsers. As of August 2008, when an empty TiddlyWiki file is downloaded using either Safari or Opera, it is bundled with a copy of the TiddlySaver.jar file in a zip file - both files must be in the same directory whenever the TiddlyWiki file is opened in order to work."


Clicking on the .jar link giv however:
"404 Not Found: TiddlySaver.jar not found via bag, no suitable bag for TiddlySaver.jar"
Probably too old a version of safari?
Java not enabled?


I have installed & launched jamiga

Can i enable Odyssey for java ?
Will the download of tiddlysaver.jar work after that ?



I do find following guidelines:

Click on Safari and select Preferences
Choose the Security option
Select Allow Plug-ins, then click on Manage Website Settings
Click on the Java item, select an option (Ask, Allow or Allow Always) from the pulldown list When visiting other websites
Click Done, then close the Safari Preferences window"

Allow Plug-Ins : spotted a Settings/Plugins item & set it to enable
The closest thing to "manage website settings" is windows/URL preferences.
only http:www.google.be was present there with all checkboxes marked
including "local storage"
no "java item"


Anybody looked into "enabling java" allready

Unfortunately actually there is no java for Odyssey
maybe you can find something that use javascript

i have looked at javascript in the first place. till now not with the expected success. I always end up having to save the modified file using (proposed with a strange name "blob:weirdstring" in a new tab.) from th browser's "Save As" menu.

My ambition is to develop loong html pages divided in <div>, in which i i embed an "auto-editor"..selecting the <div> to edit
It should work offline and not need a (local)webserver.
As soon as the html5 "download" attribute to the "<a" html tag is available that will be easy. Right no?

I wonder what java feature is used in the .jar file above (that i cannot download) to achieve. Can it be copied with an other avaliable languag?

a jar file contains a pre-compiled code, not source code
so it's almost impossible to know what it does,
java sources have .java extension

Currently Jamiga doesn't support Java web applets.
Java applets require AWT support (I.e. GUI and graphics), and even if Jamiga had that (which it doesn't), there are some glue libraries required.

So, no Java applets for now. :(

It might be possible to execute the jar file by itself, but I doubt you'll find anything interesting, since the functionality you want (reading/writing local files from the web browser) won't be reachable from within the web browser when executing it outside.

I have been diving into html5, javascript, java& even if i don't get where i want to go , the trip was fascinating
I notably learned that python has a simple webserver on its own, that you launch from CLI.
