Here is the latest pictures of the new OctaMEDPlayer v8.1 running under AmigaOS 4.1 and AmigaOS 3.9
The new version uses AHI and is fully ReAction based. It is still work to do but the project has been ported/rewritten from the original 68K assembler to C code by a very capable developer who has been commissioned by A-EON Technology.
They might update the code to use 24bit / 32bit / double float, mixing buffer for less noisy sound. UADE uses the original 680x0 playback routines so it gives you original sound, but not improved.

Paula also uses sound buffer, but it's just 8bit, you don't need to feed etch individual byte into a DAC, using the CPU thank god. Real time is relative concept. (as you know time is relative)
OctaMed med has more channels then physical channels (4 on Amiga), (2 on AmigaONE). This channel has to be mixed before playback, if it's classic Amiga or AmigaONE.

Yes you may :) I'd like to know this as well who was brave enough to start working on this. I recall there were (several?) attempts to update Soundstudio earlier.
Any news about how the MIDI is going to be supported?
Yes, I try to stay in touch with A-Eon, as well as occasionally IRC'ing with AmigaOS betas and developers.
These past months I have been unable to work on Amiga things, but I am starting up again now, slowly. If I can help anyone get a better connection to CAMD, I am usually happy to help. Maybe I should put together some example code that includes reading the MidiPorts prefs settings.
I always thought the two biggest obstacles to making music on the Amiga were the lack of MIDI support in the default install, and lack of a decent software synth. I am really happy that these are now on every F.E. install CD. Now that everyone has the support stuff, we might see more music related programs and tools.
What, like I'd give up so easily after been holding my breath and waiting for decades?
Yeah, there are better alternatives but the best alternative is missing some essential features. I started a thread on amigaworld earlier but it seems there isn't interest.
Talking about alternatives, there's also Horny sequencer, which doesn't work correcly on current OS4 release and isn't actively developed anymore.
Also HD-Rec and AudioEvolution4 are no more developed.
