Sam 440ep Flex / radeon questions

Could someone tell what is practical performance diffrence with 64bit/128bit radeon 9250? How many fps it gives more to Quake II/III? etc.

There is a PCI update for Sam 440ep Flex it promises 15-30% more performance to PCI bus, but it decrades memory clock? Wich one is better choise? Faster PCI and slower CPU?

Quote:
if you own a Sam440ep-flex board @ 733 Mhz, when applying the update, the DDR
will be clocked down to 122 Mhz. This means you'll loose around 20% speed on RAM
access, but will gain around 15% speed on the PCI.

Though I don't have 733 flex, I have 800, so what it would do to my Sam? I haven't done this becase I figured out that PCI is not a generally performance problem CPU is?

There is no Radeon HD option availlable to Sam Flex currently with working 3D? Will there be?

The only Radeon with 3D enabled is the 7000 series.

I try 3 7770 in my SAM 800 with bad results. Don't work any.

:( :(

I hope a new driver for the 6000 series appears soon.
I have a saphire 6850 that works fine but without 3D. :(

There is a rumor about new uboot for Sam 440ep series to fix that problem with Radeon HD7xxx series.

Currently there is no Radeon HD card for Sam 440ep/Flex wich would have working 3D

Just wondering, will there actually be 3D driver for radeon HD5/6xxx series?

Also wondering how much difference it would do to Radeon 9250 64 bit? Wich I have now.

There is possible to add Radeon 9000pro or 9250 128bit to flex, but does it actually make any difference to games? Would Radeon HD do?

http://www.gpureview.com/show_cards.php?card1=305&card2=625

Also should I do that uboot update to get faster PCI or stick with slightly faster cpu? I ques PCI speed would be problem only with higher resolutions?

Yes, there's a Radeon Hd driver for 5000 and 6000 series, but not the Warp3D driver.

My 9200 is more fast than my old 9250 in 3D games.

I will try some test with the 6850 and the 9200, then publish here.

there is a sensible speed difference between a Radeon 9250 64-bit, and a Radeon 9000 128-bit, but the later is very hard to find.

The PCI update is highly suggested on your 800 Mhz model, it doesn't decrease RAM speed, and you'll see some more speed available in 3D games, videos, etc...

There is a new U-Boot for Sam440ep boards in the work, which will fix some problems with HD cards, release date is unknown at the moment.

What are your suggestions for my Sam440ep?

Do i get a speed increase using a PCI card instead of the onboard M9?

Shold i use a PCI-E to PCI converter?

I have UBoot 1.3.1e 05-Jul-2012

PCI update is November 2010.

Do I still need it? or can I still run it, does ti work with latter uBoot?

There are 128bit versions of Radeon 9200 and 9250 also. Radeon 9000 pro is 128bit but also higher clock, compared those two.

Yes, I play this with the 9200. With HD 6850 don't work. :(

Yes, you still need it, the PCI updater is unrelated to the U-Boot version used.

Thanks for letting us know it doesn't affect the 800mhz model's RAM speed. I don't think I've applied this patch on my system. If I have but forgotten, would it harm it to do it again?

No harm done. It just tells that patch is alreday applied and doesn't run second time.

I have wondered what is practiacl diffrence between Radeon 9250 64bit and 128bit.

SDLBench tell that 128bit is actually little slower than 64bit. Wonder why?

That has nothing to do with real life performance. So here is Quake timedemo benchmark.

Radeon 9250 64bit 27,8 fps
Radeon 9250 128bit 32,7 fps

So in Quake 128bit Radeon gives about 15% boost, compared to 64bit Radeon.

After the recent Sam440 UBoot update, is there a chance this PCI Radeon HD 3450 card will work with my SamFlex (using the RadeonHD driver, of course)?

Just to say that i've been using a PCI RadeonHD 5450 on a sam440ep since quite a while, on a dual monitor setup.
Granted, it was not a easy task, but finally i've got it to work.

@trixie

I belive that yes.

I test a HD5450 PCI, ad works even with the old UBoot.

I test some others like :

6550 PCIe with adapter PCI to PCIe
6750 PCIe with adapter PCI to PCIe
6850 PCIe with adapter PCI to PCIe
5450 PCI

And works fine. The only problem, it's with the 7XXX series, don't work at all, and I tested with the new UBoot 1.3.1f.
