Perhaps there's some people willing to help him out. Seems he's having a hard time getting into the amiga side of things.

Btw, while i reading that link, i found these words:
"understand how AmiCygnix is used". That is scare me a bit, and i hope port will be not based on AmiCygnix (someone who have contact with porter imho should say that AmiCygnix should not be used).

same here. I also hope that it is a native port and not based on AmiCygnix.
It also seems a lot of work porting this (a year or more).

What says a "one day = one game" port master like kas1e to this timeline :) ?

:) sdl/gl ports are much easy than that 100% :) I am also read that part (about which you point imho?) :
Quote:

Milestone 0.6

Note : this part can need a lot of time (probably several month, or even a year for a basical native port). vcl is a critical part, where system events, fonts, keyboard and graphical (low level) layout like instances, frames, windows, controls and basically all graphical objects will be implemented

Strange that is need so big rewriting work, because if it's already ported to many platfroms, then it mean that code should be more or less portable already.

Imho all of this will be interesting if no AmyCygnix will be. Because it's slow, and we already have AbyWorld over it..

Why is such a big task given to a guy who never touched an amiga before???

Shouldn't it be a fairly experienced amiga programmer instead?

Trevor??

It's interesting to read how the Amiga environment appears to
"normal" users/developers.

That is a poor guy who is left alone in a foreign and unknown
world. I doubt that this port will be finished before 2020 if
not also an experienced Amiga developer intensively works in
cooperation with that guy.

All in all, all that fuzz about "soon we will have open office", for now looks pretty unreal (just after reading the whole link). And of course, it will be not finished for the first x1000 sales ..

Btw, it was funny to read about "ugly shell" (what by default is it), but no one say to him that there is KCON and alt .. Dunno why Trevor (if i understand right) send machine to him for working on port.

Do we know for sure that this is the OpenOffice port to which Trevor was referring?

Please do not try to contact Eric.

He has already all the help he needs.
If in the future, he needs help from the community, he will ask for some.

Everything has been taken care of, for now.

Thank you.

Good to hear that he has the help that he needs.

However, I would like to know which filesystem he is using, and what his complaints are. I also hope that whatever is causing Subversion to freeze when checking out the source code is tracked down and fixed. I've never had any trouble with Subversion, so I'm surprised with this. Finally, what didn't work with ssh?

At a guess as a new user of Amiga OS the subversion checkour hanging was probably either a stack or he hadnt started abc-shell (or both), as for ssh the problem I always had was I could ssh to a server but then couldnt ssh from there to another (or su to root).

As i remember i always use SVN binary without setting a stack, or running abc-shell. I just do "newcli", then "svn http://aaaaaa trunk".

for some project the SVN_STACK_SIZE env variable must
be set with the appropriate value, actually I have 500000

This is something that I hope can be eliminated. If it's not necessary on another platform, then it shouldn't be necessary on ours either.

my opinion is that he should use a cross compiler. It could speed up a lot the work.

1) the unix shell works correctly on other systems
2) the compilation time on many platforms tooks also 2 days.. imagine on our SAM..
3) on linux, windows, mac there are a lot of editors that are more powerful than ours..
4) no more stack problems..

etc etc..

i'm really tired...

Who said he won't use a cross-compiler.
Actually he will try both compiling on OS4 and from a Linux system.

@Hans

He is running on FFS2. And before everyone ask, there is more important thing than explaining to him how to format his partition.

I experienced a crash when using svn (without setting the env var) only on JXFS. A bug report is filled.

we should definitely keep an eye on this project so we can reference this guy's experience when we attract more software devs to the amiga platform

Edit: removed my criticism of the project

I hope I can rely on you to self moderate. I know if I was trying to maintain enthusiasm to learn and tackle a mountainous task I would be very upset to read your description of me.

Can you edit please, I don't think it is called for.

Edit: Thanks
