I'm at work so can't look at my SAM... but have you got all the details from your Provider about the pop server client etc?
Visit there web pages and check out there tutorials... even the ones for Microsoft etc since the examples provided use the same values you require to enter in YAM also.
I'm assuming you have a valid up and running network connection. Start up YAM and click on all the sections of the program and just toy around with it a bit...

TCP/IP SMTP part, fill in server name (normally smtp.domain.com) POP3 part, click new Fill in a/c name (anything you like) Server - normally pop3.domain.com, pop.domain.com or mail.domain.com Username and password Make sure active is ticked Toggle delete mail on server as per your preference Leave everything else as default
If you are using GMail, or an ISP which uses Google's email hosting, there is some additional configuration because it is all encrypted.
These are the settings I got of virginmeda.com/help. Outgoing Mail (SMTP) 465 was (25 on YAM) Incoming Mail (POP3) 995 was (110 on YAM) Now I have an error which reads: - POP3.virginmedia.com` replied with an error message during the welcome procedure and the connection was terminated: On in the TCP/IP settings I have left the server allows 8bit characters left unticked. Use SMTP AUTH left unticked. Use secure connection ticked for No. With TLSv1 left unticked. With SSLv3 left unticked On the receive mail Active ticked. Log in using APOP left unticked. Delete mail on server ticked. Use secure connection ticked No. With TLSv1 left unticked. With SSLv3 left unticked. Am 1 going wrong somewhere in the YAM configure settings. If I tick the boxes with SSLv3 and tick Active and use SMPT AUTH unticked, when Send I get an error message :- Connection with server `smtp.virginmedia.com` was interrupted while sending a command `QUIT`. This may be due to a connection dropped by the server. When I try to send a E-Mail I get this message:- Bad response from mail server `smpt.virginmedia.com` to command `MAIL`. But is I tick SMTP AUTH I get this message:- Could`nt connect to host`smpt.virginmeda.com`. The mail server is currently down or doesn`t support the SMPT protocols and the same error message if I send a E-Mail. But if I set the @virginmedia.com on the P.C it works fine. So please tell me were I` am going wrong.

OK, at the top (SMTP): Use secure connection: with SSLv3 Leave Use SMTP AUTH unticked (even though the help says to use it, it doesn't work here on the ntlworld.com domain anyway - and you don't need auth within VM's network) Port 465 should be set automatically.
At the bottom (POP3): Use secure connection: with SSLv3 Port 995 should be set automatically.
Everything else as per above.
It actually sounds like you have the right settings. All I can say is, I use the old ntlworld.com domain (which is set up exactly the same) with the above settings and it works fine.
I use Yam with Virgin Media. They recently changed the config need to access emails. Did you get the email explaining this? I probably still have a copy and the info is available on their website.
Alternatively if you come on irc, amigans for instance, I will talk you through it step by step.
Hi Chris On my PC I?m using @ntlworld.com and have set up a second mailbox @virginmedia.com on the Amiga. In YAM these are the setting I have used First Steps Settings:- Real name: - ant E-mail address: - myemail@virginmeda.com Pop3 server: - pop3.virginmedia.com Password: - ***********
Account name: - ant Server/Port: - pop3.virginmedia.com 995 User name: - ant Password ********* Ticked Active Unticked Log in using APOP Ticked Delete mail on server Ticked SSLv3 Hope this helps Thanks Ant
UPDATE I have made sure it is SMTP but I`m still getting an error message:- Connection with server `smtp.virginmedia.com` interupted while trying to send command `QUIT` This may be due to a connection dropped by the server. I do get an error first but it goes quick

I've just created myself an @virginmedia.com address to test, it appears that this domain requires SMTP AUTH - so tick that. Username and password are the same as for accessing your mailbox, method is AUTO.
Hi Again Still having a problem, I have ticked SMTP AUTH but now I have 2 error messages when I send, the first one is Bad response from mail server `smtp.virginmeda.com` to command `AUTH LOGIN`. 535-5.7.1 Username and password not accepted. Learn more at (just left blanked) The mail server couldn?t execute the command and replied with the above error message. The second one is: - Couldn?t connect to host `smtp.virginmedia.com`. The mail server is currently down or doesn?t support the SMTP protocols.

You definitely have yourfullemailaddress@virginmedia.com as the username, and the correct password as logon details for SMTP AUTH, with method set as "Auto"?
Do you have any strange characters in your password? Might be worth setting it to something alpha-numeric only.
Hi yet again My e-mail address say is fredbloggs2@virginmedia.com. My password has just numbers and letters no dots or dashes and no stange things. I have ticked SMTP AUTH and ticked SSLv3 on both boxes and still getting errors. If I send:- error Couldn`t connect to host `smpt.virginmedia.com
The mail server is currently down or doesn`t support the SMTP protocols.
If I get:- an error Couldn`t initialise TLSv1/SSLv3 session with host `pop3.virginmedia.com`of account`fredbloggs2@virginmedia.com

Did you tr to go back to TSLv1 as i recommended in an earlier post? Not that i want to sound funny but *my* provider gives the same error message if i try to use SSLv3...
...wonder if it hurts to be ignored...heh, yes it does
I was gonna mention that as well, but seems too obvious.
Let me see if I can help the OP a little. Here are my settings from Apple Mail.. I have an Ntlworld account which is of course the same company now.
incoming mail server: pop.ntlworld.com / pop3.virginmedia.com username: namebeforethe@sign password: yourpasswordwhateveritis port: 995 use SSL yes, doesn't gve option to choose which standard authentication: set this to 'password'
----
outgoing mail server: smtp.ntlworld.com / smtp.virginmedia.com
default ports: 25, 465, 587 use SSL yes, doesn't give option to choose which standard authentication: none (if you select any kind of authentication it won't work; been there done that)
Don't know what else to suggest apart from that. Good luck.
Sorry for the delay I did try TLSv1 but still get an error `Couldn`t connect to host `smtp.virginmedia.com`. The mail server didn`t respond within the predefined time frame and therfore timed out.
If I get e-mail an error pops up Couldn`t connect to host `pop3.virginmedia.com` of account`fredbloggs2@virginmedia.com`. The mail server didn`t respond within the predefined time frame and therefore timed out.
P.S Did not mean to ignore you.

Yep, domain as ntlworld.com works, too lazy to change it, probably doesn't matter what is in that box.
However, it is seriously looking like there is something else wrong (DNS perhaps?). Can you ping the two servers?
