Hello everyone, Lately I am doing some updates at our website, and I need your valuable feedback in case of issues.
Today I did the following updates 1. Removed the Google Analytics script. Less JS, and less tracking for all of us 2. Updated xoops to newer version. This is necessary for security and future updates.
So, in case you see any error or problem, please inform me on this thread. If no problems occur, I will continue on the next steps of updates the following days.
@walkero Thanks for removing the Google Analytics tracking. I followed the good example and did the same on my little site. It was broken for a long time anyway.
This is just like television, only you can see much further.
@BSZili You welcome. On my hobby sites I prefer to remove any tracking JS code that it is not necessary. No need to feed the companies with personal info.
I had an idea a few months ago to start a movement with a graphic badge image, with the label "Tracking code free", which would be great to be used by websites that do not have any code like that, but then I thought that this maybe is not possible, because if you embed a video from youtube, there is already tracking code there. Difficult to get rid of it.
Amigans.net doesn't have any tracking code guys. Feel safe to visit it as much as you like.
Hello everyone. I would like to inform you that tomorrow, around 22:00 UTC I will do more updates at amigans website. This means that it will be down for at least 30 mins.
After that I will need your help on reporting issues, in case there are any. Of 'course, all this time, I will be available online at the amigans IRC channel.
hello everyone. Unfortunately the update didn't go well, and I reverted the website to the previous version. In case you see any problems, please inform me here.
I will investigate more on the issues and I will try a new upgrade next week.
@Raziel Not many at the frontend features. But I did: - Some good maintenance on the server - Fixed the problem with the Password Recover email, that was not sent - Upgraded Xoops to newer, more secure version
More upgrades will follow the next weeks, after throughout testing. The target is to have the newest versions of Xoops and modules working just fine, without breaking anything, so to move to newer versions of PHP, and then be able to use better modules. When all these are done, we will be able to add more features at the website.
@Walkero Can you enable "auto wrap lines" be default option set when user comment news ? Current it disabled, and so spaces just ignored, and user need to set auto-wrap line manually.
@kas1e Thank you for your message. The following days I am going to update the code of the news. It is better to do such changes after that, if needed.
@Walkero Something weird happens with news items in whole : if you logged in, all shows correctly, last one from few days ago. If you didn't logget in, then main page contain news pages from 2012 year :)
EDIT: now seems fine, probabaly i just catch some work in progress razer than bug ?
@Walkero Something still wrong with news on main page still. From time to time there shown not recent ones, but ones from year 2012, or from year 2007 sometime. Most of time it happens when you didn't logged.
I wonder if this is also a new issue: When I write a reply in a topic and submit it, I think it used to go back to the topic and show me my new post. It doesn't do that now, it just stays on a more or less empty page.
Best regards,
Niels
Edit: Hmmm - when I submitted this one, it actually did return to the topic.
Maybe it's an intermittent thing ...
Edit2: Further observations seem to indicate that the issue may be related to showing a preview or not before submitting. If I show a preview and maybe correct something before submitting, I get the empty page.
Edit3: And no - that wasn't it either. I previewed and modified the above edit, but still got back to the thread when submitting.
Oh well. Maybe it acts in different manners in different forums?
