New AmiUpdate is out! Can be updated through amiupdate :)
@Simon
Is it ok that in the information window some codes are broken? I mean check on the screenshot (click open in new tab for full size) there are " words everywhere, also ' , sounds like or typos, or maybe broken handling, or something on my system?
Should AmiUpdate handle the update itself or is it a manual install?
It depends partly on the version of AmiUpdate you have before you install the new one.
And of course it also depends on whether you have set the Update prefs to allow automatic installation.
You can also use the prefs to designate the server to check for new versions of AmiUpdate for self-updating (normally you'd want that to be the amiupdate.net server).
I just checked and I am showing 2.48 (1/17/21). I don't know why I got the message about having to install it manually, but it looks like everything is ok now.
I double checked and automatic installation is enabled and I have the amiupdate.net server as well as the Hyperion server listed to check for updates.
Thanks for your assistance and thanks to Simon for the update.
I double checked and automatic installation is enabled and I have the amiupdate.net server as well as the Hyperion server listed to check for updates.
I have the update check on startup disabled on all my AmigaOS 4 installations as it uses the www.amiupdate.net address which doesn't work due to some DNS issue and eventually times out.
Instead I have amiupdate.codebench.co.uk (as recommended in a thread on these forums) set under servers as the place to look for updates.
Actually, you can edit the server in the servers tab and set the amiupdate server to be the one to use for self-update. So if you use the codebench address in your server list, set that one to be used for self-updating (it will appear in bold in the list), and then you can set the checkmark for check for updates on the first tab page.
@328gts AmiUpdate is not only for Hyperion Updates, but a global way for anyone to add this feature to his apps. MUI, AmiSSL, Netsurf, Emotion are a few apps that use it.
Updater is only for A-Eons apps and AmiStore purchased software.
You don't have to use AmiUpdate for the AmigaOS 4.1 FE update 1 & 2 as they are also available from the downloads section on www.hyperion-entertainment.com.
On my X5000 as well as under WinUAE I have a strange behaviour in the preferences: In my "Directory for archives and updates" the following is listed: "bùÁ°bùÄPgUÔ"
Does anybody had this as well?
It would not bother me if I could change it but if I open the requester and try to set a "proper" path then it crashes: "Guru Meditation: 80000003 Task 0x68c74c50 (SYS:Prefs/Updates') caused an error of type DSI to address 0x018335c0".
I have also tried to change the path dorectly in the preferences but this causes the same...
yes this is a bug I found and reported to the developer, who refuses to fix it because he's a terribly arrogant person and a terrible programmer.
The problem is the default XML settings file is missing the parameter 'tempdir', which together with a very badly programmed use of the expat XML parser causes this problem. i.e. the app assumes the parameter is always there and if it's missing it just loads garbage into memory
The fix is to add it back in yourself by editing the XML file.
Thank you very much for your explanations. And it seems that there is a way to fix it. But frankly spoken, I cannot do anything with your short advice for I am just an average user.
So please can you explain step by step how this can be fixed? Thanks!
