WormHole: great tool to easily transfer files via LAN

Hello everyone,
I made a short video of a great tool that you can use to easily exchange data via LAN. You don't need to configure it, you just need to start WormHole on the computers on the network and then use drag and drop to copy files to other computers.
The video is in German, but you can set English subtitles. I would be happy if you gave the author some positive feedback, thank you :)

Looks REALLY cool.

Wish there was a Mac OS version so I could share with them as I don't have Windows here and my Linux is Ubuntu so not ARM based, which I think was needed.

Looks really nice though!

Well Done!

Thanks for the tip and the video. I will try WormHole tonight, although I am very happy with SMBFS.

Not sure if WormHole is available for MacOs to transfer files from my Mac to my X5000, but I'll find out.

It would be cool if that is an option one day, Mac OS.

His link shows these as compatible.

The following systems are supported:
Amiga OS4
MorphOS
Amiga OS 3.x
Aros x86 ABI V1
Linux ARM
Windows X86

Hi Guys!

I am working on this project from some time but still not there to be worth a public release.
It was a mismanaged website accident to see the light.

But hey, it is Amigaland and maybe you are already used to semi-finished softwares.

The product page is: https://www.kezdobetu.hu/software/wormhole.php

@AmigaSociety
Uploaded a Hollywood applet too, so it can be tested on OSX too. It would be nice if you would try for me.

Keep in mind that it is work in progress! It is working in some conditions for me and that alone makes me lazy. However I am greatly interested in solving all problems and have a nice and stable little tool. So feedback is welcome as usual!

@McFly
Thanks again for the video and the generous donation! I have great respect for this community.

That's great news, I'll be testing it for them tonight on MacOs as I'm very interested on WormHole.

By the way, I find their homepage very stylish and surprisingly it works very well with Odyssey.

Thanks for this great little tool.

I will check it out and report back once I am able to test.

I have Intel based Mac OS running here and an X5K next to it.

Would I be correct I just download the Hollywood Applet, launch the .HWA file I see after unzipping it, and it is self running on any Mac OS system, and then test it?

Or do I need something else too?

The so called "applet" has no binary. That is platform independent script and data.
You need the Hollywood Player for your system.
It can be downloded from here.

If you have a problem with opening the menu, you can close the program with CTRL-C or the equivalent of OSX.
Something still not investigated problem blocked the context menu on ARM Linux, so maybe you will face it on OSX too.

Let me know!

Good and Bad news....

Good news, it works one way. I can send a file from my Mac to the X5K but can't the other way. I get an error.

My Mac is Mac Pro 2019 running Mac OS 15 and downloaded the Hollywood Mac OS x64 version of player.

I launch WormHole and it does place the icon on the desktop.

I downloaded and ran the Amiga OS 4 on the X5K and same, icon appears.

When I drag and drop a file from X5K it does ask permission on the Mac to allow it to save but then I get a window.

Appears I can add a picture here so can only explain what it says unless you want me to email it to you.

But good news is I was able to copy a file from my Mac to the X5K and on it, asked where to save, I selected a drive and it worked!

The error I get on the Mac is

Hollywood Player

Table field "lastdestination" was not initialized!

File: WormHole.hws (current line: 493 - In Function: <<unnamed>>)

Hope this helps.

Thanks, it was full details :)

Fixed a problem shown on the mac and reuploaded all platforms.
WormHole downoads.

Changed the debug output as it is closed by default. A new menu item in settings can be turn on/off debug output.

About the one way communication on the mac.
If the program can connect to another machine you have to see the two machine's name in the hole.
The upper one is the home the other is the remote machine.
On Amiga systems it is the name of the network interface (Prefs/Internet/Interface/Name on OS4).
On multi user platforms it should be the user name.

Please take another round

Maybe the firewall on the mac don't let incoming transfer.
Interesting that it works on win10 and Raspberry Pi default settings.
It uses the port: 64738

Tested under MacOs Apple Silicon ARM and HollyWood ARM46 here MacOs tells me that the file is corrupted and cannot be executed. So I tried it with Hollywood for MacOs x64 and that works. WormHole.hwa then also opened via Hollywood Player and asked me which network I wanted to use en0 or en1 I decided in favour of en0 which corresponds to my Lan. WormHole then opens and I tried to start the file transfer, but unfortunately I get this error.

Resized Image

But under AmigaOs4.1 I could see that I am connected.... I made the grey background unrecognisable because it shows my name.

That "lastdestination" error was concerned the applet only and should be fixed in the current version. (About window shows 06-Mar-25 date)
