Dongles probably only can record one type of resolution, like 1920x1080, which i already can. What i need, is device which can record 640x480, 800x600,1024x768, etc up to 1920x1080. And not like one resolution for one video, but record in one single video in 1920x1080 different video inputs, like 640x480, 800x600, etc and didn't stops/pauses/hiccups when i switch between video modes (like running a game done in 640x480 being on WB in 1920x1080). And it also should output 1920x1080x60FPS, not 30.

And NoXlar's "HD PVR 2 Gaming Edition Plus" seems able to do so, but i need to be sure before buying it.

EDIT: by some luck found today secondhand's "HD PVR 2 Gaming Edition Plus" for just 35$, so tomorrow will be able to test it.

Hopefully it will work for you. I had the previous version, "HD PVR" and it worked fine for a while but had a firmware bug that would cause the firmware to crash. I had to re-install the firmware several times until one time I couldn't re-install the firmware anymore and the device would not work. I bought another one and eventually it had the same issue. I still have both the dead ones. Turns out this was a known problem. Hopefully you'll have better luck.

I ended up buying this device: Cloner Alliance BoxPro
Check out the manual to see all the features and resolutions: ClonerAliancePro Manual

It has worked great and can be used with the Amiga without any software at all. It records to a USB stick, Fat32 or NTSF. It has a audio input so you can use an external mic or run the Amiga sound directly into it. It comes with it's own remote and it will display menus on the Amiga screen (screen being recorded) so you can set pretty much all the setting without a PC It does come with PC software but I've never used it. It can record inputs down to 640x480 to 1920x1080 60fps and even 3840x2160 30fps. I takes a lot of other resolutions as inputs as well. I've tried recording several of the different Amiga screen modes and it handles them well.

I just recorded an example video of switching between a three different resolution screens and it records without problems. The only thing it does do is display a semi-transparent bar at the bottom of the screen showing hte resolution for a few seconds when you switch screens. Download the example video and see here:

Cloner Recording Switching Different Resolution Screens (~36M)

Looks like it only records 1080p at 30fps, so you would need the UHD version for 60fps.

This can also unofficially record encrypted stuff. I tried it on an encrypted DVD and it did work.

It runs about $165 (US) new. There is also a UHD version of it but it of course cost more. The build quality seems to be very good and I've never had an issue with it. It just works. I have done several recording of my Amiga screens and recorded PC screens, without any software. I use it to demonstrate defects I find for work.

Unfortuantly I see you already purchased the HD PVR2 but you found a good price. It will probably work well for as long as it works. If you do end up looking for something else check out the Cloner Alliance Box Pro or the Cloner Aliance UHD Pro (Ultra High Def).

Thanks! I see that it just auto-scale other resolutions to 1920x1080. Pretty visibly in 640x480 how letters, etc start to be blurry, but it is still much better than no output at all. Maybe there are some settings somewhere in your device to choose algo for auto-scaling?

Ordered also "ClonerAlliance UHD Pro", this one "PVR2" one even if will work as i need, still looks too much second-handed :)

Btw, the only way how to record videos with "HD PVR2" pro i find, it by using their "Hauppauge Capture" program and "Capture4ME". But something else seems wrong with me: Preview mode just a slide show full of a mess of colors and sync with original output is very laggy. i type something and it appears only after 5-7 seconds in the preview window. Maybe may cables are bad ... but they are fine for Avermedia's LGP2 for sure.

One thing you can do if your recording 640x480 that helps is to change the aspect ration to 4:3 before you start recording. Of course you can't change the aspect ratio on the fly while recording so if you then switch back to a 1080p screen it looks squished. You could record the different screens seperatly into seperate files then join them with VideoClipper. :)

Nice, that's the high end recording device. I beleive it also supports recording at output resolutions of 640x480 which should look really good for that resolution of screens. Of course, with the Amiga's ability to have multiple screen resolutions at once you will always have to compromise if your using more than one resolution. I did some more testing using multiview with text at 640x480 and there is degridation due to scaling but it's still very readable. Expecially in 4:3 aspect it looks pretty good. Hopefully you'll be happy with it.

hey kas1e

sorry my very very long ago.. was my plan to use everything Amiga, forces out of my control stopped me for most Amiga related stuff. feel really bad not committing to tread.

anyway, yea.. still have both recorders still, one was hdmi digital only for both video and sound and therefor incompatible with Amiga. second one had hdmi with sound + additional optical sound.

mine was also lagged from output window inside program on pc, but that's just helpful preview output that didn't matter anyway. but, videos recorded was always flawless and always in sync 1080p 60hz + sound. i still have my recording on youtube.. anyway, you need to have driver downloaded from somewhere. if u need i can send it to you.

how is the state with hdmi sound? not that i need. just wondering:)

I seem to have a too old model, it's: HD PVR 2 Gaming Edition, Model: 157210 Rev B6.

But yeah, installed their latest driver now... Still lag hard and recorded laggy too in their app. But I found a solution: OBS software. With it record all fine and almost no lag in preview. At least i can make use of it now while my ClonerAlliance UHD Pro in delivery state

mine is:

HD PVR 2 GE Plus
157220 LF
Rev B2

HD PVR 2 driver (1.6.33232)

so you have this:

https://www.satmultimedia.ro/hauppauge ... -2-gaming-edition-p28740/

non plus version.

with plus version you get optical input, that you have to have for digital sound with amigas without working hdmi sound

from web site:
And with HD PVR 2 Gaming Edition Plus’s S/PDIF optical audio input, your audio will be as amazing as the video. If you have 5.1 channel AC3 audio from HDMI or optical S/PDIF, your recordings will have 5.1 channel surrond sound AC-3 audio!

https://hauppauge.com/pages/products/data_hdpvr2-ge-plus.html

i also remember it was something very odd with the drivers.
but not 100% sure.. maybe 70%

and got the driver for that too. but, just have that feeling.. usually correct.

HDPVRCapture_v3.7.3_528

i uploaded it for you using easy upload:

but i don't understand why it is lagging, i used AMD 8350 cpu when recorded mine, it was max quality 1080p 60hz, never once lagged.. the whole point with those hardware recording devices is to have box doing most of the stuff and not pc for lag free experience.

remember i also used a weak laptop in my sons room to record some minecraft for him that was also maxed quality and no lag. i did experimented with bit rate though, getting to use as low bit rate as possible without notice reduced quality in your recordings so file size would be lower, but always 60hz

i can upload a xbox recording i did.. 2-3min long. use short hdmi cable and maybe turn of sound recording in Hauppauge software in case it struggle locating sound

edit: here is 1min borderlands 2 game play from xbox 360 1080p/60

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QtAkC29OmKw

edit: dam, it was just 30fps, will see if i got any other video recordings

So I got a few days ago "ClonerAlliance PRO". For the moment I can say that it is very bad.

It is much worse than my LGP2 and that is why:

When I connect everything and start testing, I find out that sometimes it shows that my 1920x1080 on a monitor is 50khz, sometimes that it is 60khz. Wtf :)

Then, I tried to use it for recording via OBS Studio (as I do for LGP2 and for older HD PVR), and it give me only 30FPS as maximum! Probably that can be related somehow to the same issue why the monitor's screen mode detected sometimes as 50khz sometime as 60khz.

Sound. Awful. I mean it's just bad by freq, too high, almost no bass. I do not know why, but on LGP2 it is as should be. On Cloner, it's just sand. At least when I use a headset. But i also can't make sound output when i put to the line in of notebook, where LGP2 is just output sound out of box :)

Next, Switching between modes sucks hard. It didn't detect stable many resolutions, for example, those ones on the boot of amigaos4, bios, etc. So sometimes it just shows you "no signal", etc.

Next, when I run anything in 640x480 for example, then I can see pictures in OBS Studion, but it completely disappears from the monitor saying "HDMI IN: Not support". And what is more funny, together with that, Audio disappeared too. Not that i even need that shit kind of audio quality :)

And also in OBS Studio, offers only MJPEG (bad quality), and no H264/H265.

So i think that having so many problems can't be for real, and something needs to be done. Like updating firmware, or maybe installing their software, or maybe drivers need an update or something of that sort. But as it now, that of course no-go.

Sorry to hear the ClonerAliance PRO is not working out for you. I'm sure you purchased this partially on my recommentation based on my experience with the non PRO version. I don't have any of the issue you describe with my setup, except that my version is limited to 30Hz.

Note that I don't use mine through the PC software. Have you tried using it in stand alone mode without using hte PC software?

Also, you might try contacting the company that makes it and describe your problems. Maybe they can help. I haven't had to call them myself but I have read that they are usually very helpful and stand behind their product..

Naa, don't worry of course, the more devices we test the better for everyone :)

I think that this UHD pro can be just "too modern". It can be very well that my monitor is too old for this device for example (so can't switch to 640x480 properly). But then.. why in 1920x1080 it sometimes detects as 50 or as 60khz..

Quote:

I tried pure writing to USB flash, and yeah, there it saves 1920x1080 on 60 FPS. But still the same bad sound quality, the same no 640x480 on the monitor and instead of that "Cloner" image. If I switch to 1280x1024 for example, it is not "stretched" as expected, but shows in a smaller window in the 1920x1080 area.

And switching between modes just too long - not sure how long, but 3-4 seconds, and for that time you record "cloner" placeholder image :) And that is because instead of capturing what it got, it tries to be modern enough and "detect" some crap...

Probably for us better card it's something more analog, which does not matter what comes, record it, without pauses when switching modes, without banners when it switches modes, and just with normal resizing.

LGP2 is all good, just can't record 640x480 in h264, but at least can in mjpg.

I'm sure your more than capable of finding this but try this link for support.
Cloner Support

Hopefully they can either help you or discover that you have a defective product. From the specs it looks like it should be able to do 640x480.
Alternativlyl, maybe they have a different recorder that will meet your needs better. Good Luck, and yes, please keep us informed.

Yeah, already wrote them there :)

Will see how it goes, pretty interesting. Even if their device is "too modern" for example, they still have in the doc that they have support 640x480. And in OBS Studio and/or their ClonerAlliance recorder I can see this 640x480 picture. Just on a monitor it says "HDMI IN: not support" flashing with "no signal" :)

Maybe the box doesn't like that I connect not directly to the HDMI monitor but to an older monitor with DVI output, so I have converted DVI-HDMI on the monitor output (but that one pure wire adapter, nothing hardcore, and works with LGP2 of course).

So I got an answer from the support of AllianceCloner Pro:

Quote:

Thank you very much for contacting ClonerAlliance Inc..

When recording to computer, ClonerAlliance UHD Pro can record up to 1080p@30fps so far. We are really sorry for any inconvenience.

In addition, for the issues of advanced audio setting, 60fps input, and 480p input, I feel sorry again about them. I have forwarded your nice suggestions to our developer team for their consideration. We will try to fix these issues in the future update of ClonerAlliance UHD Pro. Thank you again for your kind understanding.

Please rest assured to use ClonerAlliance products. If you have any other questions about our product, welcome to contact us at any time. We will try our best to help you out.

At last, I want to personally Thank You for being one of our customers. It really means a lot to us.

So far, they clearly say that when you use a computer, only 30 fps for 1920x1080 :) In that regards LGP2 is 100% better.

As for other issues, it's unclear if they will be able to deal with or not.

So for now, LGP2 is the better choice, even if it didn't support 640x480 in h264 (but do support in mjpg), and didn't support 800x600 at all.

wouldn't ffmpeg be able to handle that? it does under linux perfectly, it has to be built with the ability of course.

Not sure that I understand what you mean.. What we discuss there are external devices that can capture our data without (and that important) any speed loss which we had when running any software-related solutions.

And another important moment is ability to record everything : from 640x480 till 1920x1080 in 60fps, with hardware scaling to 1920x1080, and with no pause when switch between screen modes :)

There are already SRec by Salas00 which can grab data in software, but that means FPS is loose of course as CPU takes the time for.

Probably the best solution is to set up a stable camera in front of the screen and record from there.

As long as there isn't some hardware that grabs directly (no drivers) from HDMI output (with it's own cpu) it won't work without cpu loss.
