I tried the latest version without modifications. I never had the immensely slow boot times of kas1e. For me, the previous changes where about half as fast (30s boot time). With the latest version, the speed for me is almost back to normal.

Still, the skip_line=2 effect is a bit distracting, and has the same feeling like working on an interlaced PAL/NTSC screen (only every 2nd line updates).

But I have a different issue:
Since the merge the mouse movement does no longer work smoothly on 32bit screens. In fact, if I move the mouse to the left quickly, it jumps multiple times to the right instead. I need to move the mouse very slowly in order to get the pointer from one side to the other. The pointer does not cross the screen if I move the mouse too quickly.

Mouse delta changes X,Y can overflow, this result in some strings issues. That part of code is unchanged however, the FPS changes does not affect event handler. You can try changing the WB prefs settings.

Thanks, I will try that.
Edit: No, reducing the mouse speed in WB Prefs does not help. It just jumps shorter distances if I move the mouse quickly. And it does not happen if I switch to a 8bit guest screen.

And running 32bit guest screen on 8bit OS4 screen causes a DSI. A few version ago this would render the guest in grayscale.

i need good stack trace, or its useless.

That depends if 32bit screeen is larger then 8bit screen it can crash, as skipped scaling in 8bit mode, and we did not find a larger screen mode.

Yes, as i say once we merge p96 and amiwin, things start to be worse in 2 times. That probably what you find with Multiverse demo as well.

It looks like all those new tricks to improve speed is make a regressions in end and.

Maybe it worth keeping the merge, but then put back non-wpa copy methods, so to be the same fast as it was. And then, instead concetrate on things we need to fix (palette, keyboard, crashes when swith between window and fullscreen, improving other things, etc).

IMHO we need to step back on the code which was before "merge", and start from this again. Because before merge it was almost perfect, and after merge all sort of slow stuff come out.

Or if not step back, but at least make it behaves like before , without WPA, or how it was ..

This issue happens for me to. It exactly happens after you merge p96 and amiwin. Everything start to be just slower in 2 times. Mouse movement, opening of dirs, boot times, everything.

Of course, no change in os3 configs were done, all test done the same in all cases with the same settings, mean that this is new code issue.

Drawing speed is lot better, have you chacked p96speed? nope you have not.

have you done any benchmarks quake, or demos? well not really all your number is the boot speed, so no you don't know anything.

Ok, let's try one more time. While your attitude to protect new issues and problems instead of fixing them kind of strange, but i will try one more time, but follow plz very carefull what i wrote (pretty please):

After merge of p96 and amiwin, in 1920x1080x32 mode on 32bit amigaos4 screen happens this:

1). mouse moves start to be slower 2 times on 32bit workbench on 32 bit screens.
2). boot times of the workbench 2 times slower from 15 to 30 seconds
3). opening of the directories on the workbench 2 times slower.
4). rendering of the background picture on the workbench 2 times slower.

I am talking about 1920x1080x32bit mode opening on 32bit aos4 screen. Only about that. Nothing else. Nothing about AGA or 8bit. Just this one where i find new issues.

Should i run specific benchmarks to test anything else, if i already can see the issues and report them to you, and you, instead of being happy that we beta-test things for real, start to protect issues with all this shit "you don't know anything" ?

Even if benchmarks will show better numbers, it didn't close the fact that whole FPS and boot times start to be SLOWER. Who need better numbers in benchmarks, if the real FPS and boot times slower ?


I know enough to be able to see the differences between different versions and how they react. And what i explain you many times is that after merge the entire usage of workbench start to be 2 times slower : everything, boot times, rendering , move mouse, opening directories. Everything. But again, 1920x1080x32bit screen on 32bit amigaos4 screen. Should i repeat it again ?

Maybe your new changes improve something somewhere, maybe 8bits start to be faster, i have no doubts that something somewhere may improve as you know everything, but that not the point of my bug reports.

My bug reports about 32bit os3 on 32bit os4 screens. Only about that. Boot times, mouse movement, opening of dirs and whole rendering in this scenario 2 times slower now in compare with pre merge code.

And, to clarify things, I should add something, probably :

My work as beta tester, to point out on the bugs i found. And i found and point out on them for you. If your new change improves anything anywhere is another story. I just found new bugs, and report them. It's you choose to fix them, or protect them with excuses like "Go change prefs speed of mouse, go change vsync in tooltypes, go change keyboard, go change BGRA on ARGB or whatever".

Is it really hard to accept the reported bugs and be grateful that we beta test your code and bring a bug reports on you ?

If you don't like bug reports, and don't want to improve the problems in some places happens after your changes : just say it, i will happily spend my time on anything else. Because it's really suck to spend time on, hunting for bugs, and then get back "change keyboard, change BGRA on ARGB, change mouse speed in preferences, change the tooltype". And even your last one "run the benchmark all fast and i do not care if everything else is slow! you know nothing!"

Remind me plz later how good you know it all when ppls will report the same issue as i report now. As you can see, only me and Flynn do test things for real there. If we report something, it's probably worth to check, no ?

But, even if take as you say that i know nothing about how to test things (surprise for me, but ok), and that i have hard times to see how everything slower on 32bit screens now in 1920x0180: the time didn't like, and is the boot speed something not important too then by your logic ? Then maybe compositing wasn't important too ? And the whole thing ? Why you go that unlogical route and point out on my bug reports like it's not important and all ok? Are you for real think i can't beta-test os4 stuff after all those years ?

Is there a problem for you when ppls find bugs in new code and report them ?

There everything start to be worse 2 times. YES, YES, YES !!! On 32 bit screens with 32bit workbench in 1920x1080 everything now slower 2 times. YES YES YES. Check yourself. Just run it and use for a while.

Not 8bit modes, not p96 bench, but run for real 1920x1080x32 bit on 32bit screen, and compare the same actions with the pre-merge version. You will be surprised, if you didn't believe me and have doubts in my beta testing skills.

Maybe it will be better if i will made a video for you showing pre-merge working in workbench in 1920x1080x32 and latest code, so you will see difference visually ? Of course, if you care about at all.

I don't know, possibly your goal to improve 8bit only, and you give a butt about 32bit usage: then of course, there no needs to report anything about issues with 32bit p96 on 32bit screens.

I just tried Icomp's Picasso96-3.3.3 that was released on Monday. And it works flawless on Workbench 3.2.x.

The icons have the correct colors, as have the splash screens.
And also the jumping mouse movement seems to be fixed, too.

In difference to older versions, the icons also no longer vanish when using JIT.

The version before combining the source files still feels faster. I tried to make videos with an external USB HDMI recoder, but the framerate is so low that you do not see any difference between the newer and older version of uae. You barely see the "interlacing" effect of the latest version in the videos.

Btw, checked the comp.c of you latest code, and find this:

In includes for graphics.library i find this:

* COMPFLAG_SrcFilter - If set, enables bilinear filtering of the source bitmap
 *         while scaling. While this can improve the quality of scaled images,
 *         it might cause a dramatic slowdown when the operation is emulated
 *         in software.


Were there reasons why you didn't want this bilinear filtering to be enabled when scaled, or you just didn't bother before about ? I just see it commented, maybe it by default enabled, so wasn't in needs to enable it specially ?
