USB Card readers for OS4
Just popping in

I am thinking about buying one of those nice USB all-in-one card readers for my AmigaOne/OS4 - preferably an internal model for one of the free drive bays I have in the tower. How well do they work with OS4? Any recommended models? Do I need some additional software (other than USB stack)?

No additional software required at all. I bought the cheapest one ebuyer had (?1.20 or something) and it works fine with my SD card.

I bought a Digital Concepts 21-in-1 Card Reader/Writer which has four slots that can read 21 different types of memory cards. Just plugged it in and it worked right off the bat. So you shouldn't have any problems with something that sits in a bay.

I have one of These. works fine, they do a 52 in 1 version ?8.10 as well

The only thing to check is the socket wiring, you might have to change it. there are several 'standards' as with everything else in the pc world.

@outcast

Yes, I think it was the same as mine

@GrumpyOldMan

The USB card readers sort of work like a hub as well, so you can leave them plugged in the USB port of an unfixed A1, and hot-swap cards with no problems.

Is there any way to get working usb on an SE? My usb that's on the machine does not work at all. I know this is standard on the SE. But is there a way of maybe adding usb's or something???

I had some initial problems with card readers, but it turned out to be the CF card in my camera - apparently Canons can be a bit funny.

Rude!

@Antique:

Sorry to say this, but I get the impression from Those Who Should Know that the SE's USB circuitry is badly flawed (I don't know in what way) and can not be made to work reliably.

If you want to attach to a Micro-AOne board, you might want to look these details over:
http://www.ncscaug.us/ua1page1.htm
That'll give you details on the pinouts for the USB Headers on board.

If we would have a driver for a usb pci-card
