Please do not use the "apple" logo or we may all end up in jail!
Definitely a gray area ...
However -- my take is that when I imitate imagry with the intention of identifying a SPECIFIC product/use, it's "fair use".
The point of protecting a Trademarked image is to prevent confusion in the marketplace, dilution of the brand identity, etc.
Example:
A drawer with an Amiga logo on it that's intended to be used with AmigaOS is okay. (I'm promoting Amiga & not some competitor/diluting the brand).
A drawer with an Amiga logo on it that's intended to be used with Aros or MorphOS is NOT okay. (I'm promoting aother product and/or diluting the brand).
-----------
My feeling is that any drive icon I paint with Apple-inspired imagry on it would be useless for anything but Apple related products, so it would also be "fair use".
Having said that, if someone in an official capacity complained or asked me to remove something, I would (and have).
P.S. Anyone remember that Andy Warhol used Campbell's Soup cans in his artwork -- a good example of "fair use". Let's not forget that this is my ARTWORK!
