I just uploaded a new version of Quake to OS4Depot. Since I didn't realise that there was a newer 2.30 version on AmiNet than the 2.20 version I fixed last time (which I released as version 2.21), I re-applied my changes to the 2.30 version, plus made a couple of other changes and fixes which will hopefully resolve the problems some have reported.
The MUI-GUI is of course included in 2.40 and it should work now in higher resolutions too, like 1680x1050 (although framerate will likely be quite low in such a resolution), on a Pegasos2/G4 it works at reasonable speeds (25+fps) at resolutions of up to 1024x768. On a Sam you get around 25fps in 800x600 resolution.
Just a question, i don't understand if it is better to use or not the option near the " triple buffer " ( sorry i don't remember the exact name ) " OS.. "
Triplebuffer is better for playing because it synchronises the video updates with the monitor's refresh. The only reason you may want to disable it is if you do benchmarking.
You mean "Use OS for screen update"? That does exactly what it says, it uses the OS routines for updating the display (e.g. WritePixelArray8...). It's of course slower than Quake's own routines.
I always get problems with rez higher than 1024x768 on my SAM ... More to this, it's not impossible to change display resolution during game with menus ...
All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us.
At work at the moment, but this is great news. Looks like most are more than happy. Well done Cobra.

What problem? I can run a 1680x1050 resolution fine here on a Peg2, apart from the slowness I see no problems. To change the video mode ingame you have to go in the menu to Options -> Video Options and select a resolution, then a screenmode requester will pop up.
Can I use this same 2.40 version for all the Quakes 1, 2, and 3?
THank you.
And sorry for not knowing whats going on here.

Just tried the Quake exe and i get a very nice juddering game.Any settings likely to cause this? Juddering means the screen is shaking not acting as a slideshow. I`ve tried 800x600 and 1024x768 so far. This is on my A1 G4 /1ghz radeon 9250 256mb
Update-The information bar is still, its the rest of the screen which shakes. Also i`m still using OS 4.0
Keep up the good work.

I don't get any shaking here, hower I did experience some strange flashes when using the -forcewpa8 option in combination with triplebuffering, so make sure you don't use the -forcewpa8 (in GUI "use OS screen update") with triplebuffering enabled.
Do you have a direct link. I have tried for two days, and IBrowse will not download it. It just sit's there in the download manager window, with a red box besides it, and doesn't download.
my apologies, I thought you would be using OWB to download, I mean, did you not tell me in another thread that it works for you?
Cheers.
