everything is in the title... I've tried several apps from aminet but none really work here (OS 4.1/Pegasos2) and i'm tired of having my Ram Disk icon not staying where i want it to stay : )
I -THINK- what you need to do is snapshot thr RamDisk icon where you want it, then copy the .info file over the default icon file. The name is something like RAM_def.info and it's somewhere in the Prefs directory.
Sorry I can't be more specific but I'm not at my A1 right now.
1. Position your RAM disk whereever you want 2. Snapshot it 3. do the following command in shell copy RAM:Disk.info to ENVARC:sys/RAM_Solid.info 4. Put the following line at the bottom of user-startup Makelink RAM:Disk.info ENVARC:SYS/RAM_Solid.info SOFT 5. Reboot
1. Scrap any and all apps or other "smart" solutions you are using, and remove anything you might have put into your Startup-Sequence or User-Startup regarding the RAM Disk icon.
2. Get the RAM Disk icon to contain the image you want, make sure it opens the size and position of window you want, and position it at the spot you want. Then snapshot it.
3. In a Shell, type "copy RAM:Disk.info to ENVARC:Sys/def_RAM.info clone".
4. Reboot.
5. Never worry again, at least as long as you avoid creating a real RAM:Disk.info.
(6. In case I got some detail of this wrong - it's all from memory - blame me, and yell at me, and I'll try to fix it ).

No need for a specially named icon and for linking it explicitly. Just save it as def_RAM.info instead, and it will be used as default icon for RAM: automatically.
This makes the Ram Disk icon "snapshottable" like any other disk icon. You can move it around, snapshot it and it keeps its position without the need to copy something forth and back.
I've been using the soft link method for a while now. What I would like to do is auto delete the underlined "disk.info" file in ram after bootup. I was able to do this with the default info file, but not with the soft link file. I can delete it manually after bootup, I just like ram to be clean, that info file bugs me.
I tried adding a delete line at the end of the startup-sequence, but it's ignored

I don't know of any risk. This method works since OS 3.9. I don't see a reason why they didn't make it standard long ago.
Because in OS4, the standard moved in the other direction, i.e. to expand on the usage of default icons. Any device can now have a "def_<devicename>.info" in ENVARC:Sys/, which will be used for creating a "pseudo" icon for that device if it doesn't have its own Disk.info file. (I think it works with volume names as well, but I'm not 100% sure ATM, and too much on the way to bed to check ).
You can still do what you suggest, of course, but it depends on whether you want or don't want to have a "real", snapshottable .info file in RAM:, which has the side-effect of snapshotting also your original icon on the HD. (Edit: Or doesn't that apply with a soft link? Again, on the way to bed ...)
If you use snapshot on a file which displays a default icon (i.e. one which doesn't have a real .info file accompanying it), the snapshot should create the .info file, so you no longer use a default icon. The same (almost) goes for a volume icon, here it will create the Disk.info file. Doesn't that work for you?
