Playing audio CD's on SAM
Just popping in

Even after fiddling with AHI prefs (but not really knowing exactly what I am doing) I can not manage to get any audio when using "PlayCD". Other audio output such as module playing, games and so on works fine.

How do I get CD audio?

Do one of the following:

1. Play the AIFF files through TuneNet (from the mounted CD0: )

2. Connect an audio cable from the back from the CD-ROM drive to the audio header on the board (which is right at the back near the PCI slot if you have a 440EP)

I notice that the drive that I got with my SAM doesn't have any audio output ports and does not support the command to play a CD. The only option is this circumstance is to play the AIFFs through TuneNet or another player, or get a different CD-ROM drive (I connected my old one as a secondary which does have the ability to directly play CDs - useful for games that have CD audio tracks like Wipeout)

An other idea :
Use SongPlayer on your Sam, it works just great for playing audio CD.

I had the same problem as Astral and thought about this, only to realise the DVD drive I bought had no such Audio connector on it!!!

Thankfully I have ripped all my CD's as MP3's so not being able to play CD's has been no great loss (however connecting my Amiga to my NAS using Samba has hit a brick wall, but that's another long story!).

Sold up all my Amiga gear, not only an Amigan via Amiga Forever!

Thanks for the replies...

Yeah, as stated, I think it is probably a lack of audio connection on the CD/DVD drive. DVD's play fine, but without any sound too.

I will check the drive to see if there is any audio connections on the back...

A DVD Video won't use the audio connector on the back of the drive - if you can't hear audio, check your AHI setup, and make sure you don't have any other programs running which may prevent other apps from opening AHI. The audio connector on the back of the drive is slowly disappearing, and it's a shame, but it's for CD audio only.

Are you using DvPlayer for VideoDVDs?
If yes: Have you installed the needed audiocodecs in LIBS:avcodecs?

@ALL:

Why want you use Audio cable since Songplayer reads perfectly Audio CD without it ??!!
Overall, it has CDDB support.

I find this strange ??!! ;)

So that SATA doesn't get slowed down when doing hard drive backup, etc.
