PCI bug or clue?
Like some other people my Sam440ep has USB problems. I have suspected they are further into the system than just the USB part. Here is another 'strange' occurrence that is repeatable for both onboard network ports.
Yes,,, I have checked all the related hardware several times in several ways.
I installed a Silicon Image 0680 ide card. Seagate HD. Installed OS4+Upgrades. Connected and have working a network connection on port0. No problems.
Just for grins I wanted to move the connection to port1. Again, no problems. Okay, back to port0.
Problem! I forgot to move the cable, and here is what happens if there is no hard connection on either port. Keep in mind this is off the sii0680ide.
System >Internet >New connection >Ethernet >next >Automatic configuration >next Dialer popup 'Searching for ethernet adapters...'
And Then another window pops up --------------------------------------------------- Smart Filesystem request
Volume 'System' (DH0: sii0680ide.device, unit 0)
There was an error while accessing this volume:
General device failure. The disk is in unreadable format.
errorcode = 20 io_Command = 2 io_Offset = 20940800 io_Length = 1024 io_Actual = 0 ---------------------------------------------------
Only a hard reset will get things back to normal.
A 3key reset gets a software failure error:870B 0000 task:0x0000 0000
