PEB's OWBAddressBook [SOLVED]
Quite a regular
Quite a regular

See User information
@Raziel and Peb

Sorry for cross posting this to a new thread, but I thought the old OWB 3.21 thread wouldn't get a lot of attention anymore with 3.22 out. And this really isn't so much an issue with OWB anyway.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
I finally got around to doing a cut and paste with your ABPrefs file. When I brought up prefs and tried to change the window location, this is the warning I got: (now with OWB3.22)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hollywood Player

Cannot read beyond end of file
File: Main.hws (current lineL 69 - In funtion: ReadLine)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

At least with your prefs, the quick links don't come up, so when I click away the error message, I don't have the quick links window blocking my browswer window.

(OK, I just opened SimpleMail to send a copy of this off to PEB, and the program is locked after the error in the AddressBook execution.)

Next suggestion? Thanks

Paul

I'm sorry to hear that you are having so much trouble with the Address Book.

The text file called "ABPrefs" must be getting rewritten incorrectly; so I'm thinking that "AddressBookPrefs" is causing the problem with "ABPrefs" (since it works until you try changing the window location).

Try bringing up the icon information window for "AddressBookPrefs", and tell me what it says for "Last change" and "Size".

It could be that i'm using a newer version of AB, so that some lines from my config aren't known in your version of AB.

Best would be imho if PEB would send you the latest release and you install and reconfigure everthing without messing with the config files by hand.

here's the info:

Last change: Wedmesday, August 12 2009 1:51 PM
Size: 70,492 bytes (138 blocks)

The file is from an archive dated December 9, 2009, which I had just unarched again for this.

OK, it is fixed now.

The fault was all mine. I forgot to add the new Preferences files to the archive before I uploaded it to OS4 Depot the previous time. Raziel did not notice any problems because he was doing beta-testing for me and had the latest files.

Anyway, I've uploaded a new archive to OS4 Depot; it should fix the problem. Let me know if any bug persist.

Thanks.

The behavior is changed now, but still persists.

I can now change the prefs to have the Quiucklinks not open up. That change will save, I can close the AddressBook and then reopen the Address book again using the key combination or menu.

But as soon as I try to resize/move the Address Book window using the "dummy" resize window, I get the exact message as noted above as soon as I click on OK.

So it seems the problem is related to the window resizing.

Yes the Window resize feature wasn't updated to the new prefs structure it seems.

These are my ABPrefs before changing the window size
Quote:

LinkFont="Bitstream Vera Sans.font"
LinkFontSize=16
GroupFont="DejaVu Serif.font"
GroupFontSize=16
StartQuickLinks=0
AutoCloseQuickLinks=1
XPos=0
YPos=90
DimX=255
DimY=473
ShowDate=0
ShowTime=1
ShowSeconds=1
AMPM=0
LeaveOpen=1
LookUp=0
History=0
HintSeconds=1
HideURL=1
Links=75

and after
Quote:

LinkFont="Bitstream Vera Sans.font"
LinkFontSize=16
GroupFont="DejaVu Serif.font"
GroupFontSize=16
StartQuickLinks=0
AutoCloseQuickLinks=1
XPos=612
YPos=340
DimX=335
DimY=377
LeaveOpen=1
LookUp=0
History=0
HintSeconds=1
Links=75

As you can see the whole Date/Time part wasn't saved, plus the HideURL line is gone

And i found another graphical glitch while you are already on it

Steps to reproduce:

1. ADD a new link (it will be added to the top of the list)
2. DRAG&DROP it to the VERY end of the list, so that the slider is down at the bottom (after dropping you nedd to scroll down one position to be sure you are at the end of the list)
3. DELETE the VERY last entry in the list

You will see that the BACKGROUND of the button and time/date display will get overwritten by the now redrawn link list (the button and time/date will be untouched).
The background will get back to normal as soon as the list is completely drawn, still it looks disturbing

And a feature request: (sorry )

Is it possible to let AB "lock" onto OWB's window?

That is, let AB open it's window right or left (option?) of OWB's main window, in the same height and size the user set in prefs (or maybe make an option to respect the height of OWB's window, just like the inbult AdressBook of OWB?)

Technically possible?

Thanks for catching that bug too.

Version 4.8 on OS4 Depot fixes the problem.

The snapping to OWB's window edges can be done---reading the tooltypes from the OWB icon. But I'm not sure that I'd want to add a snap option to the Prefs. (Though I might add a key combination that will do this.)

Anyway, let's continue the discussion of bug fixes and feature requests through e-mail.

Yay!! Thanks. That change did the trick. It's nice to have well organized bookmarks available again.

Happy New Year.
