my time is all over the place for the past week on my system which leads me to believe that the battery on the MB is shot. As my Samflex is only 9 months old I'm wondering if any other Sam owners have had premature battery life
I've always had MB batteries last me at least 3 years and usually longer..
I still don't believe that the "premature battery failure" in A1s is common. It certainly doesn't happen in *all* A1s - witness the number of people, myself included, who have no problems at all.
Kurt Grach reported a long time ago that a particular brand of sound card somehow drained power from the backup battery, but I've never seen confirmation of that, either.
Frankly, I tend to believe that the reported failures are due to some other cause, possibly mishandling during replacement. It's easy to short circuit the cell as you plug it in, and that ruins it.
I have my Sam 533 1 year and 8 months ago and I haven't problem with the batery (I touch wood) if with other bizarre problems, but not with the batery.
Dunno when I got my Sam440, but it was close to when they were first available with OS4, but my battery is still working fine.
Try replacing the battery, but be sure not to touch the battery with your fingers (hold with a tissue or something), because this is claimed to short the battery & leave a salty residue that gradually drains them.
I think it might depend on how you switch off your Sam, if you just press the case button your Sam will go into a low power state, most computers will still draw a small amount of power from the mains and run its clock from mains power. If you switch off main power by unplugging from the outlet then the computer will switch over to your backup battery.
Personally I would prefer a nice rechargeable RTC battery....
