Now that we have compositing, it should be possible to make a commodity that zooms the screen when a key is pressed and the scrollwheel is used. OSX has this and it's really nice to be able to zoom in on pixels sometimes. Any taker?

This one does something similiar but it would be better to have a commodity running in the background all the time and try to make it a bit more elegant like in osx.

There is also CloneWindow ( on aminet with sources) that may be modified to make a zoom commodity Alain

@spotUP
Have a chat with Ami603, he's got a very nice zooming routine in
SSDR , just run it them middle click on a screen thumb to zoom to full screen.

Thank you very much.in the meantime i've done this (remember:WORK-IN-PROGRESS)
http://ami603.amiga-projects.net/ZDR it's just the main executable.assign it to a FKEy combination of your choice and use the mouse wheel to zoom around.

Ami603, NICE!!! I haven't tested it yet, will do tomorrow. It would be nice if the speed of the scrollwheel could be adjusted. Does it blur the pixels when zooming or is it pixelperfect? Also in the examples i looked at earlier the zoom got dogslow when i zoomed in a lot, i guess they didn't do any clipping, and rendered a very big image even outside the visible area. Is your zoomer fast even when zoomed in a lot? EDIT; this feature should be part of os4, make that happend! ;)

@spotUP It blurs the pixels at the moment but Broadblues has already asked for a pixel perfect option. The zoom in/out is the same speed between zoom factors, it's jumps rather than a smooth zoom like OSX, moving around is very fast even at full zoom but that probably depends on your hardware, an R9250 isn't going to compare to an Rxxxx-HD. I've used allkeys to assign it to the 5th mouse button.

usage: Launch it from cli, amidock, or assign to a FKEY combination of your choice. once launched, you'll see a magnifying lens to let you know its working. mousewheel makes it zoom in and out, middlemouse button enables/disables hardware filtering, and the left button makes it end the program.

It would rock if it could be turned into a commodity that triggered on ctrl+mousewheel. +1 for smooth zooming and a pixel perfect mode.

Unfortunately, it's CPU hungry (otherwise it would have been excellent to use it for switching DvPlayer to FullScreen without having Overlay).

Just tried too with DVPlayer. Very useful (nevertheless, as K-L said, cpu hungry on x1000 too). Thank you.

What about a peep-through window, looking at an other hidden public screeen? Would certainly use that one a lot fro copying & pasting , grabbing a well defined part of that screen etc

@Ami603 It doesn't waste CPU when running, nice ! Just a little thing, it makes DSI (skipables) when a key is pressed when the zoom is active. No problem to exit zoom with mouse button
