Upgraded Graphics Card (R7 250), Help
Not too shy to talk
Not too shy to talk

I just got this card:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00JOCNH32/ref=dp_cr_wdg_tit_nw_ls

I put it into my SAM460, UBoot works fine, all the preloading seems to work, then it gets stick when it says: "Loading done, now launching kickstart."

Any ideas?

Do I need to purchase the Enhancer Software Graphics Upgrade in order to boot into Workbench with this new card?

So I purchased and installed the Enhancer Software Graphics upgrade. Now I can boot into Workbench, but within a second the whole system freezes and I need to do a hard reboot.

If I bypass the user-startup (holding down the left shift key) then it boots into Workbench and doesn't freeze until I double-click any of the icons. Booting Workbench like this, I can move my mouse as much as I want; I can single-click any icon with no problems; but as soon as I double-click any of them, then the system locks up.

Same as on my Sam460 system. Solution: downgrade to a 6570 as I did, or upgrade to a X5000 or A1222. Or wait for a Uboot upgrade that probably never will come.

http://www.sapphiretech.com/productde ... DA2-DA5F80F7B15F&lang=eng was the card I tried. Hans conclusion is that Uboot is the cause.

If you want a passive card:

Worked great in my Sam460 with a PciExpress cable extender or without a Pci card. ( needs 2 slots).

This appears to be an Oland based card.
So Sam46ex problems to be expected.

Anything with Stream Processors = 384 is Oland based

It seems weird that it would be a uboot issue, since it boots all the way into Workbench (then freezes); but I'm sure Hans understands what the problem is.

@benny
I'd love to be able to find a passively cooled graphics card that works with my SAM460; but I can't find anywhere in the U.S. to buy one.

@everyone
So it looks like I'm going to need to buy another graphics card. I'd really like to avoid wasting money on another card that doesn't work. Does this one appear to be one that should work with a SAM460? (I don't care about it taking up two slots.)

This Card uses the original Verde chipset(HD7750,HD7770,R7-250E,R7-250X) so should work.
The problem cards for the Sam460ex are Oland based and some of the newer Verde variants .

The card has DDR5 which is required.
You can always send it back to Amazon.
But imho it is going to function 100%.

Okay, I ordered it. Hopefully it will work without any problems.

Thanks, everyone, for your input.

What about Oland in combination with GDDR5, any success?

I have only heard of 2 Oland based cards workings with a Sam460ex. The same model of 1 of the 2 did not work for me.
Elwood had one and Hans had one. His model did not work for me. So not impossible but very low probability . so even the same models may have variations that do not work .
