XRick Version #021212
Just can't stay away

I need help again compiling directly under AmigaOs4.1. I downloaded the latest source code from http://www.bigorno.net/xrick/download.html and wanted to compile the game xrick.

The readme says that a simple "./config; make" should be enough. Well so I changed to the abc-shell, executed the command and then I got this error message:

The os4depot version doesn't work and has strange distortions in the game, so I wanted to compile it myself, but apparently I'm too stupid for that

Maybe it's also because you should set up a basic developer system with all dependencies needed to compile simple source code at all. The latest version of SDK is installed.

I am a total beginner in compiling under AmigaOs4.1, but I would try it anyway.

To compile under AOS4, you need to run shell "sh". Then you should have all PATH and variables already configured under the SDK.
xrick does not use configure. If you issue the command "make" a file "Makefile.global" will be generated.
If necessary, you can change things there. But remember to block the generation of this file in the "Makefile" if you do something in it.
You may still encounter problems compiling......

If you don't want to play with it, replace the file in the old version. It does not solve the SDL problem with G4/Pegasos2, but it should work for you.
Run with "-zoom 4" option, then you don't mind not having full screen.

This is pretty cool and works perfectly

Still I wanted to learn something about how to do simple things under AmigaOs4.1 directly. Thank you anyway.

try something simple to start with. i have no idea what to suggest. some hello.c program.
Check that the compilation environment is working properly. It's like a car repair shop, everything has to be close at hand and in working order.
the most important thing is to be calm and persistent and you will find out how to do it

If you are building XRick, could you please try to change SDL_HWSURFACE to SDL_SWSURFACE just for test?

Zoom level 4 works? How about zoom level 1 and 3 (2 is default)?

-Zoom 1 and 3 work perfectly, standard 2 works too. It's the compiled build from @Smarkusg and I don't know what he changed to make it work, but it might be helpful.

The Xrick version of Os4Depot does not allow -zoom and always switches to full screen.

some years ago, Huno released another Rick Dangerous.

you can find it here : http://hunoppc.amiga-projects.net/content/rickd-rick-dangerous-1-2

working with Gamepads, which is a plus point for this kind of (platform) game !

this version does not work under Qemu Pegasos 2 G4 correctly.

The website says "License: Open source" but I cannot find the source.

XRick is in version #050500 under SDL2 but there is no port to AmigaOS4

edit:
I guess the version from HunoPPC is based on RickD
https://sourceforge.net/projects/rickyd/
