AmigaOS4 Update 1 - Now Available!
Yes, that's right, the long-awaited update to AmigaOS 4.1 is now available to registered users.

Visit Hyperions website for more information and for download.

Edit Note: The Download is an ISO which will need to be burnt to CD. It is to be installed on a fresh partition by itself. Back up first! - Mikey C

What's New........

Kernel
Offers more stability on SAM, a more reliable and efficient memory management system and improved memory paging to and from harddisk.

DOS
A new mechanism for launching preset programs for specific taks, such as email clients and web-browsers (URLopen).
Application tracking for ease of program location (AppDir: handler).
Improved shared object support with significantly decreased loading times.

Intuition
Improved window support, fading and rendering - including drop shadows.
Reduced video memory consumption due to improved screen handling.
New internal methods for better system "theme" support.

System
Updated ASL requesters and imagery for a fresh new look.
New notification system.
Enhanced automatic detection of installed hardware (including DDC support).
Improved support for external USB devices.
Updated sound.datatype and wav.datatype.
New screenblankers.
Improved calculator with extended mode.

Workbench
The new Startup preferences means no more copying files to WBStartup.
A brand new icon set to complement higher screen resolutions.
New window themes offering enhanced visual feedback.
Scalable icons.
Workbench auto update feature.

Python
Tested with the regression suite.
Enhanced distutils module for easy installation of Python packages.
New Amiga modules including catalog and icon.
New OS module methods.
MiniGL V2.2

I want to say something to Hyperion. I know i haven't been the easiest Amiga member to deal with and some would think that i was dreaming out of reality, but at last it seems i am getting right anyway. AmigaOne X1000 is on the way, marking the very new rebirth of the Amiga, and you have now released the AmigaOS 4.1 Update 1, which is also known as AmigaOS 4.1.1! You have done everything that Amiga Inc never managed to do. Your releases of AmigaOS 4 and beyond are true edvidences of that hard work. Keep it up! Again, congratulation! Now it's time to party!

Then change your filetype/userbutton to say: path/tunenet -load "{f}" (ie, add the -load parameter) For some reason tunenet has either changed its command line parameters or there's a bug in tunenet.

I got the file eventually after one whole hour watching it download but now cannot unpack the ISO from the lha archive. I get the message "Error while unpacking A1InstallCD-Upd1.lha filetype is unknown". That is with Unarc, Dopus just shows and does nothing when I try to extract. Anyone have any ideas what to do with this file or is it corrupted. I really do NOT want to spend another whole HOUR waiting for a huge download that then may still not unpack when I finally get it.

Yes, IB is still my main browser, I only use OWB if I really have to. Thankfully someone posted a way to remove the extra rubbish that was added to the beginning of the file which saved a third download. Installed today, seems working well so far, no keyboard or mouse lockups anymore (fingers crossed).

Just says multiclass and nothing in the inspector. Tried to copy 20 pictures in a dir to 4gb memstick and other 8gb memstick and all got corrupted filenames. Wasnt this to be fixed in update 1 ?

In those cases, workarounds have to be added to get around the buggy hardware. Unfortunately Memory sticks seem to be one of the worst affected so it's virtually impossible to cope with every device until someone actually starts to use it. Just check Linux, and see the list of workarounds their USB drivers have to do. MS have it easy, the manufacturers supply the information, or even write their own drivers, no such luck for us.
