The file still corrupts when downloading using IBrowse, did no one learn anything from last time ?

Re: Update 2 of AmigaOS 4.1 available for immediate down...
1. Turboprint STILL crashes when printing plain text, it did NOT do this with the original OS4.1.
Note for most printers Turboprint support is essential as hardly any printers are covered by the native system. 2. The known problem of the kickstart file ATIRadeon chip is still not fixed. There is no new file in kickstart in the update so users should *still* revert to the one from the original OS4.1. BTW. What is the point of reporting problems if the released updates do not contain the solutions to those problems? This update seems (for me) to have fixed nothing. The problems with the last update are still unresolved |

Re: Update 2 of AmigaOS 4.1 available for immediate down...
@BillE
Your attitude is, IMHO, terrible. Nobody claimed the update would fix your specific bugs. Should Hyperion not release an update of OS4.1 until every single bug is fixed? Then you'd never get an update. Same with any operating system. Besides... Quote:
Turboprint is a third party application which Hyperion don't provide any direct support for. The fact that it stopped working with update 1 might not even be indicative of a bug in OS4 itself, it could equally be that Turboprint is buggy, but in such a way that it happened to work anyway under original 4.1. If someone on the dev team uses turboprint and can reproduce the problem, i'm sure it will be fixed. Quote:
Whats wrong with the radeon support in update 1? Quote:
The dev team are only human. YOUR bugs are not ALL bugs. Bugs are entered into a database, and the dev team work to fix them. |

Re: Update 2 of AmigaOS 4.1 available for immediate down...
BillE may correct me if I am wrong, but the Radeon driver problems show up in his astronomy program, which he sells to the Amiga OS4.x community. He is a developer who is very concerned about having a working product for his customers. If the OS has no support for his product, then he is "up a creek without a paddle" so to speak.
Concerning Turboprint, until OS4.x delivers modern printer drivers, we are left with PS or Turboprint. That's it. Hyperion, I believe is doing a great job with limited resources getting a small group of developers to update the OS. With that said, perhaps they should put more effort toward the requests of the small group of developers that exist in the community. |

I have never experienced the text printing problem described, but there is a conflict with the system print driver & Turboprint driver, when changing from one to the other. |

Gak!
IBrowse and TurboPrint are not softwares of AmigaOS. Complain to to those parties please! 2. The known problem of the kickstart file ATIRadeon chip is still not fixed. Oh great, I got a problem I didn't even know I had!! With respects to DU, are we all on the same planet? Sorry, the keyboard seems to be taking over.... |

Installed just fine here. For some reason it didn't want to modify my kicklayout, though. I found that odd as I had not tampered with it. Now I have though, so it says update 2

I understand Bill's frustration that it still isn't fixed, particularly given that his application "Digital Universe" uses line drawing a lot. However, we all have plenty more things to take care of than just the bugs that he spots. It's on the to-do list; I just haven't had time for it yet. Hans |

If they want STANDARD Amiga line drawing functions to work correctly then they would need to. Not just in my application (now not an issue) but many pthers. What did surprise me is that such bugs can get out without testing in the first place, do you need someone to work on QA for you, I am willing. I can then tell you what does and does not work before releasing updates > Maybe you could be a bit more constructive and tell me what bug you are referring to, and I'll see what can be done about it. The bug is known to your devs, maybe you should keep in better contact with them ? In fact I thought the cause was known and though I would not have expected the fix yet was surprised to see an update so assumed that it had. After all updates are for releasing fixes so this is an understandable assumption. |

Fair enough, its just when I saw the word "update" I thought you had managed already. > particularly given that his application "Digital Universe" uses line drawing a lot Version 1.7 of DU is unaffected as I worked around it and made some improvements in the process so thanks for the bug as it led to a better programme However users of the current versions of DU should revert to the intitial OS4.1 ATIRadeon chip file until either the bug is fixed or DU 1.7 is released. Any other apps that have problems tough luck as I have no influence there. Better to use a version that works than one that doesn't unless Rogue can tell us an over riding reason not to, the fact that the file is newer is not good enough reason as the newest publicly available file is broken |

Graphics printing from Wordworth, DU etc. all work fine - it is plain text output that causes the lock up. I suspect the TP print text as graphics is causing the problem with the newer update kickstart files but did not with the base OS4.1. If in the meantime you have found the solution to the TP lockup please let me know what you did ? |

We have a bug database. Bugs that haven't yet been fixed are "new", "open" or "assigned". When a dev thinks they've fixed it, they mark it as "open, fixed". People test it, when the fix is verified it becomes "verified, fixed", then the developer marks it as "closed". Your bug hasn't been fixed. Nobody has yet found the time to fix it. It didn't slip through QA, it just hasn't been addressed. Update 2 was not intended to fix every single known bug. If it was, it would probably never get released. |
