Quote: Why on earth would you "removes sidestepping"? Because such feature was basically useless and made controls more complicated that they were meant to be - I've put an in-depth explanation in the FAQ on the website, but unfortunately, at the moment, the ISP seems to be doing some maintenance, so the site isn't reachable @samo79 Grazie |

Re: BOH update13 released
@saimo
I have to disagree (to your answer in the FAQ). Sidestepping was an essential feature. Even if it is not necessary (in your opinion) to solve the game, it feels much more natural and the game is much more controllable. You say, that the games controls---from the developer's point of view---becomes more complicated, but from the user's point of view, the game loses a lot -- playability, game experience and fun. If someone doesn't like side stepping, then he isn't forced to use it. On the other hand, those who have used it for 12 updates now, are forced to change their habits. Therefore, as the side stepping was once there, it's a bad idea to remove it years later. nexus |

I have to disagree (to your answer in the FAQ). Let me say right away that I do understand that the removal of sidestepping doesn't make happy who was used to it. That said, when I talk about the simplicity of controls, I do not speak from a developer POV, but precisely from a user POV: the game has always meant to have the very basic control system right from the start (I won't say more since you've already read my explanation). Also, the idea that "adding it can't hurt, because who doesn't want it simply can ignore it" proved to be wrong: when I accepted to add sidestepping, I thought the same, but in the long run it backfired as people started complaning that they also wanted to turn at the same time (and some others also asked for more complicated controls like mouse aim and 180? turn). The choice was either to going back to the true oldschool feel BOH has always tried to achieve, or going in the opposite direction. The nature of the game is such that the second option couldn't be accepted. Of course, the step back could be made only thanks to the fact that: * the functionality wasn't crucial at all - I wouldn't even think of depriving users of an important functionality; * the removal is performed by an optional update that is given out as a kind gift - if anybody really feels that sidestepping is essential, then he/she can just decide to avoid the update. I hope you understand. |

Re: BOH update13 released
Okay, but why not just leave the controlling in as in the previous versions instead of removing it. If people want even more "complex" controlling settings, you just could have denied it. It's not that you should further enhance the controls, but just not reduce it. Something what was there once and has been used for a long time, shouldn't suddenly be removed
Don't get me wrong. I don't want to complain. I appreciate your efforts in getting BOA better and better (which indeed is the case!). Especially, the online highscore list is a cool idea. I just want to give you a different point of view which may be keeps thinking you about necessary or wanted features Now, after having done this, I will keep quiet to not starting to annoy you regards, nexus |

Because it just didn't work: people kept on whining and, after all, for a reason: given that the controls were not very basic (as I wanted), how was it possible to reasonably reject the requests in the name of very basic controls? The previous situation was a middle point between what I wanted and what some wanted, and such a situation could not last longer. Quote: Don't get me wrong. I don't want to complain. Quote: I just want to give you a different point of view which may be keeps thinking you about necessary or wanted features Don't worry, you're not annoying me: even if, admittedly, I'm tired of discussing about sidestepping (a feature that I personally never wanted nor accepted, so maybe you can guess how much it bothered me), you're discussing in a very civilized manner and sharing reasonable thoughts - and you're definitely entitled to do it! |

@emeck
Congratulations! I can assure that if you guys and gals start competing, you'll reduce those times drastically - this is something that's been witnessed with the "tougher and tougher contest", where the competitors scored unlievable times However, I strongly recommend you first spend your energies on finishing as many missions as possible |
