Re: NetSurf 2.6 web browser released
I just tried installing Netsurf 2.6 and suffered a few problems.
First the installer brought up an error and i had to click on ignore dsi to carry on then abit further on the installer complained that the program was trying to do something not system friendly and promptly froze. I`m now redownloading and trying again. Ok i tried again.No luck.:{ Abit more detail on the error tho. It stopped at the file Adblock.css " A process called a DOS function with a non longword-aligned FileinfoBlock" Process "Installer" Function "Examine" Also Novice install does not work- Maybe that`s deliberate. Error not trapped |

Re: NetSurf 2.6 web browser released
That's slightly worrying (especially I'd fixed similar problems with the 2.5 installer). If it happens again please run the install through creating an install log file and send it to me.
(edit) OK, that's clearly a bug in Installer - not to mention Examine is a deprecated function! Either you are installing from/to a crazy filesystem (try a different partition, or the RAM disk) or you have a faulty version of Installer - the latest is v53.1. We'll see if anyone else has the same problem |

Re: NetSurf 2.6 web browser released
Installs ok here on OS4.1.2, however I'm having a fairly serious problem. Some websites cause the browser window to blank and the whole system freezes (needing a hard reset), Ars Technica and apple.com both cause this crash. I'm using the Cairo version.
On a positive note, vodafone.com loads much faster than in OWB and doesn't hang. The getvideo option in the menu is interesting but doesn't seem to work here with youtube. Do you need to copy and paste a URL to clipboard as with ClipDown? |

Re: NetSurf 2.6 web browser released
As i am on update 2 for 4.1 i would expect to have the right files.
I do not have the "installer" located in the "C" folder only "install".Am i to look elsewhere? How about "Installation Utility" version 53.7 Ok Thanks nbache. I have version 53.1 of the installer |

Re: NetSurf 2.6 web browser released
@Daniel
Try toggling "Cache native versions" in "Settings=>Edit preferences", Rendering tab, to "None" (and untick "Higher quality scaling" if it is on). Save/Use and try again. On apple.com in particular I suspect the huge graphic is grinding the graphics to a halt. If you wait a bit you might find it'll unfreeze, big hardware graphics operations seem to lock everything else out or cause jumpy pointer syndrome. The "Get video" entry in the ARexx menu needs GetVideo installed. If it is, then going to a GetVideo-supported site such as YouTube and selecting the menu entry is enough to play the video. It should probably check for GetVideo and notify if it isn't present, I'll make a note. @Cap Installer is in SYS:Utilities |

Re: NetSurf 2.6 web browser released
Shame this latest version no longer works properly with OS4 classic
Netsurf was looking promising as it used little Ram. |

Should still work, I test it on OS4.0 every so often (usually after changing something which is liable to break it). What problems are you having? |

Re: NetSurf 2.6 web browser released
NetSurf 2.5 graphics.library static version has been working fine.
Installed NetSurf 2.6 graphics.library version. Running on Workbench screen with default theme. When I try to run NetSurf 2.6 I get the following messages: NetSurf is running out of memory. No problems installing it through AmiUpdate, but I'm getting the same library problem like everyone else. Seems to be a bit of a memory pig also... |

Re: NetSurf 2.6 web browser released
@Chris
Tried changing the rendering settings but still have same problem. Left it and came back 15 minutes later and the system (Sam440-flex) was still frozen. Already have getvideo installed in S:Rexx, does it need to be elsewhere for NetSurf to find it? |

Re: NetSurf 2.6 web browser released
@fingus
Benefits of the Cairo version are more accurate rendering (no idea about speed, with hw accelerated Cairo it might be faster) and SVG support. @Daniel No, that should be fine there. |

@all
The static/gfx.lib build has now been fixed. Please redownload the archive if you got the old non-working one. (version command shows date 23-Sep-2010 for the fixed one) Sorry for the inconvenience, was entirely my fault. |

Re: NetSurf 2.6 web browser released
After a few problems earlier with the newer version, started over, dearchived it again and ran it without installing. I'm using the graphics.library static build. Adjusted a few prefs and saved.
Posting with NetSurf 2.6 graphics.library static build. amiga.org, amigaworld.net and amigans.net ok so far. --- redfox |
