Sadly, I had no luck with it. Tried with hardfiles and roms which work fine under shapeshifter, but no cigar on OS8 or 7.5, both stuck after the welcome screen. The emulator freezes when I try to quit it as well. :/

@Vulture
Press SHIFT while booting to disable extensions, or boot from MacOS 7.0.1 bootdisk. http://main.system7today.com/articles/tutorials/disktools.html http://lowendmac.com/macos.shtml then move any network extensions and PowerPC extensions out of the extension folder on the system partition. If MacOS crashed then it?s possible that disk image is damaged, and then you need to repair the diskimage. You should create a recovery disk image just in case. |

Not absolutely on-topic (sorry), but...
I see smaller SW companies moving away from windows to OSX as their main SW developemnt environment (less fuss, more done). So also I should learn it.... Is there a short OSX (and also older Mac OS) guide to Amigan? (oh... have I asked this already before...) |

Re: uploaded a new version of Basilisk II, I hope you lik...
...couldn't wait until the weekend...
I made a quick test and while it (kind of) works with my current BasiliskII setup it has problems with the display on "Screen". While everything seems fine in an Workbench-Overlay window (but rather slow) the graphics in Screen mode have funny blue or yellow stripes all over and graphical elements are "teared" (icons, fonts). I you like I might upload a screenshot here at amigans.net. I tested Screen display from 800x600 up to 1280x1024, in CLUT8, 16 and 32Bit modes. All show the same effects. The system is a PegasosII, OS4.1u2, Radeon 9250, booted in MacOS 7.5. This is the output from BasiliskII (it should be the 16Bit 800x600 display as an example): AHI port 64566100 AHI Request = 651aee10 AHI Base = 6fd43464 AHI Interface = 6fd44010 Screen: 'scr/50061300' mode 2 Width & height: 800 600 Event 0 code 3 Event 56 code 1 Event 0 code 0 Event 0 code 3 Event 69 code 1 Start cdrom device: (7) diskimage.device RAMBaseHost 0x61fc9000 (Size 33554432 byte) ROMBaseHost 0x63fc9000 (Size 2097152 byte) End address 0x641c9000 (Size 35651584 byte) ROM 0x63fc9000 ROM Size 1048576 (100000) ROM loaded! @cha05e90
I think direct read and writes works for you in 8bit, and does not work mmu hack. I can't make up my mind about if mmu hack works for you in 16bit, (I know there some problems) I find is strange that 32bit does not work, as no video conversion is used in this mode. here is is option to select emulate macos 7 or macos 8, it does effect how Basilisk II writes and read to memory. |

Does the Enthernet (Internet) support really work? I remember using ShapeShifter with MiamiDX driver. It was cool back then. Would be cool again to surf the Web from Mac, emulated by Amiga.

I don?t understand that part of the emulator, tried to get it working but I were unsuccessful. (You might be able to get on the internet whit SLIP. ) |

I'm not sure wether I understand this or not: *Is* there actually an option I can set in the BasiliskII setup where I can do this kind of setting? Or is it something you can set as an comipling option? BTW: I'm running MacOS7.5.5 with BasiliskII. @DrHirudo There is indeed partly network activity possible - but it's not fully working at the moment. I were able to ping the "virtual Mac" once and there is activity when trying to access an web site with for example Netscape. |

@drHirudo
IIRC there was a problem that Shapeshifter would tie-up a network interface (preventing the Amiga side from using it). But there was a SANA driver (don't recall the name) that created a virtual network interface that allowed you connect Shapeshifter to the Internet through MiamiDx. I figured once I got Basilisk working, I'd try that virtual port driver with Roadshow. Not there yet. :/ PJS |

Re: uploaded a new version of Basilisk II, I hope you lik...
Thanks for the update to Basilisk !
Shapeshifter used to be very useful. I've been playing a bit with the last Basilisk on my XE, but running into "black outs" and duplicating key strokes. Yesterday, I tried the new version on my SAM. That didn't go well. Got to Mac's initial grey boot screen (no icons, even) and it locked up. Locked up so bad that I could no longer boot from that hard drive. After reformatting & reinstalling the OS4 system partition, the SAM's booting again. But I'm kinda wondering about Basilisk. Gotta get some Nomex and try again. PJS |

Re: uploaded a new version of Basilisk II, I hope you lik...
@pjs
You are the first one I know that tries it on Sam440 system. Basilisk II, dose not run in protected memory, any bug in mac software or bug in the emulation might lockup your system, just like any Amiga programs does. Whit out knowing what settings you where using its impossible for me to reproduce the problem. Virtual file system in Basilisk II might cause problems, as tube rule I have it pointed to my ram disk. Ethernet was disabled in this build. Mac roms should not be taken from shapeshifter as shapeshifter damage the roms. I upload a new version soon. |

If you have problems disable MacOS extensions, by pressing SHIFT during the boot process or use disktools boot disks or MacOS7.0.1 bootdisk or what ever you have. |

Oh, I have your former port of BasiliskII (0.9.3+) running on my SAM440ep - works excellent (but - of course - without MMU accelaration, I suppose). Quote: system tab I tried both settings, with two different ROMs (Classic MacOS7, 512K ROM, Quadra MacOS8, 1024K ROM) - but no avail, I still get that strange video effects (corrupted graphics in 8Bit mode, coloured stripes in 16/32Bit modes). Nevertheless the out *is* really faster and the new version works in window mode on Workbench (which is 32bit mode here). |

@Cha05e90
Quote: without MMU acceleration That depends on number of pixels being updated, its slower when you have full screen update, officious when nothing is happening on screen there is no CPU overhead. (the feature is turned compliantly off on 32bit screens) About memory corruption I really don't know way its different for you, then for me, we do have the same graphic cards R250. Next version will have more options for displaying graphics, I think there is chance direct video works for you. |
