Software News : A first for OS4?

Software News

Unsatisfactory Software is proud to announce the first release of the WebP DataType for AmigaOS 4.

WebP is a new heavily compressed image format developed by Google. In a repeat of the launch of PNG, where Cloanto made AmigaOS one of the first operating systems to support the new format, Unsatisfactory Software has performed the same feat with WebP.

This new DataType will allow any OS4 system with DataTypes supporting software, to view WebP images. This includes older AmigaOS web browsers such as AWeb.

WebPConv can be used to convert existing images to the new format.

 Re: A first for OS4?
Thanks for this great dt!

Tested some apps against it and found that Pagestream 4's universal filter and ImageFX's datatype loader opens the picture somehow dithered. Are those apps using some old datatype api that can't handle 24 bit bitdepth? Can we do anything?

Anyway FxPaint and Hollywood deals greatly with the new format!

Probably, yes.

Not without the source code, unless you can write your own plugins for them which loads 24/32-bit datatypes with the v43 API.

I just checked (the very old OS4 beta of) Pagestream 5, and that doesn't appear to support loading images using datatypes at all. Hopefully this will be re-added before it is released proper.

 Re: A first for OS4?
The converter works great and e.g. ArtEffect and FxPaint have no problems with the datatype. Great job!

 Re: A first for OS4?
thanks !

on a.org, you wrote you had an existing datatype source code which could easely be modified...
any chance you would make an ogg datatype ? we have mp3, flac and wave but no ogg datatypes

@Lio

And as I said on a.org, you're better off directing that question at salass00, the audio datatypes guru.

My source code template is for picture datatypes.
