Downloaded, started, typed "chat", told Granite to let R3 connect to the net - and failed... Hope to see progress in this project, thanks Carl.

Re: REBOL 3 Released for AmigaOS
That cool.
@ssolie Maybe you can briefly explain what can aos4 version of rebol for now, and what cant ? For example, i check that example-rebolo-programms-link. Will something of that works ? Or, should be ported some more sub-classes of rebol (for gfx, for sound, etc) ? |

Re: REBOL 3 Released for AmigaOS
@kas1e
The load-gui function will download the current under-development GUI system. Not yet available for our system. Quote: i check that example-rebolo-programms-link. You can check those examples with the old 68k release. You can download it from this link: Rebol_View 68k AmigaOS Simply run it and type 'demo'... |

Out of curiosity: have there been any talks re making R3 part of OS4.1? |

Re: REBOL 3 Released for AmigaOS
I hope Steve Solie doesn't mind that I answer for him.
R3 for AOS4 still lacks testing of the host-kit and does not yet have graphics attached. The host-kit is the coupling between R3 and the underlying OS. Therefore you have only the console for now, but you should be able to already now write extensions, to load various AmigaOS libraries and use them in R3. The GUI and the graphics engine itself are two separate things, both being worked on by separate people. AFAIK, Steve is working on getting graphics to work on the AOS4 version. The GUI is worked on by a separate company, which I work in, and it will be able to do other things than shown on the preview page, which is for REBOL 2. It will be oriented towards business users, but should be able to accommodate most needs. When graphics are available (using the Anti-Grain Graphics) engine, you will be able to run the R3 GUI directly, whether it be AmigaOS, Windows, MacOSX, Linux or any other OS that R3 is ported to. |

Re: REBOL 3 Released for AmigaOS
Does it also work on OS4 Pre-Release? Or is it 4.1 only?

Re: REBOL 3 Released for AmigaOS
@HMK
Thanks for explain ! Did it mean, that every Rebol gui application will have uniq "rebol-kind-gui" look ? I.e. different menus , different windowses , etc ? Or it still will use os-specific parts ? |

It will have its own look (which is changing a lot these days), but eventually it should be skinnable, which means that someone will possibly build a skin that resembles the AOS4 GUI. The windows are just AOS4 windows, but the content would be different in appearance. As an advantage, if you want to see it that way, REBOL applications would look almost exactly the same on any platform. The GUI system doesn't use any AOS4 libraries such as Reaction or MUI to generate and render the GUI. For that, you would have to write an extension to take advantage of those libraries. |

That cool. So, in general by all of this it mean that we can build Rebol programs with usage reaction or/and mui. How hard you think it will be (for example) to rewrite some kind of ICQ-messenger done on Rebol, from the Rebol inbuild GUI, to reaction extensions ? Its will be the same long/hard way as for example rewrite QT on MUI/Reaction, or, everything will be pretty easy ? |

That probably depends on the extension API and how easy it is to program for Reaction or MUI. It would also be possible later to call REBOL as a library/DLL and use it from inside your programs, if you want to do it that way. |

Re: REBOL 3 Released for AmigaOS
This is second hand information, as I don't have an OS4 box, so I'm just guessing:
protect +e r3 Does that work? |
