Hardware News : Amiga X1000 News!

London, 7th June 2011

A-EON Technology is pleased to announce that following an extensive test programme Varisys are about to commence manufacturing the full complement of Nemo 2 motherboards for the AmigaOne X1000 Beta Test Team.
As part of the pre-qualification process, Varisys have ported the PowerPC version of Debian Squeeze to demonstrate that all onboard components and subsystems are working as expected. The AmigaOS4 developers have also been busy porting the
latest version of AmigaOS4.1.x

Cool Running

The energy efficiency of the PA Semi CPU was fully demonstrated during the
testing phase. A thermal imaging camera was used to measure the CPU and board temperatures while running Debian Squeeze in dual-core under full load conditions.
A maximum CPU/Heatsink/Fan assembly temperature of 31.1C was
recorded while playing a DVD on a software rendered 1920x1200 full screen display. With the CPU fan disconnected the temperature rose to meagre 34.6C with a CPU core temperature of 61C.

AmigaOne X1000 Update Article

We are also pleased to announce that the next issue of "Amiga Future" magazine will contain a Nemo 2 update article. Issue 91 (July/August) should be released in early July and can be ordered from the "Amiga Future" website or your local Amiga reseller.

Ohhhhh... now the green eyed monster of jealousy will start to grow. In the end, I didn't have enough money to pop for the beta program.

i will wait and see how fast and strong this cpu will be.. its very old and not new.
anyway i remember that trevor was saying something about IBM is making new potintial cpu's
i wonder how easy it will be to make a board with thease and the price. the price is the thing that keeps me away from not instant buying the x1000
anyway anuff about the cpu. all the gfx stuff now and days is in the GPU and the pa semi is fast anuf for all king of desktop jobs. i dont care about the power consubsion i want power.anyway with new mesa/gallum3d,smb the world og multiprosorcin is opening, wee can allways trow in another cpu on a pci slot. what relly makes me curius is the xena chip.what can it doo and way is it so special, the only thing i have read is pepole complaning about the low specs and something about the memory stuff... but what is it and is it justifiring the high price of this beast. the lates lite 460 from acube is in my eyes okey and cool mittle step for now, iff and when there will come high end gfx drivers for it...

@retro

what what and what?

something like; this is good news but I'll wait and see would have been better as a comment don't you agree? I really don't know where you people come from with your complicated stories...

As for the announcement, that's very cool indeed... onwards and upwards and leave the unworthy behind...

takes me back to 1985 :)

 Re: Amiga X1000 News!
@retro
The X1000 is a high-end Amiga... Not everyone could afford/justify an A4000 either! Luckily we also have the Sam460 & Sam440.

Not sure why you compain about the CPU age, as newer is not always better. But it is the fastest CPU to ever run OS4, especially once they add dual-core support

As for what the Xena chip can do... not very much without a custom Xorro card to connect it something. But with a suitable (and hopefully cheap) card it has a lot of potential, which A-Eon are leaving for us to make use of. Will probably take some time (after X1000 launch) to see what uses people make of it.
