Yeah - its expensive, but then in a market as small as the Amiga, it was always gonna cost.

On the plus side, I am willing to wager that the Boards will be 100% Solid, Varisys are a quality company. Plus two CPU's and the Xena possibilites...

@Mickey_C

Sadly that for now only one core is supported and no xena related SDK for aos4 is done. Hope it will not take too much time, and to be honest hope that price will be reduced. Or maybe they will sold the plain motherboards one day ..

 Re: First Contact : AmigaOne X1000 Limited Edition
I would like to have a plain motherboard. However i dont know. Should i preorder or wait ? what if there is bugs and 2.2 board comes out :)

@Betatesters. can someone try out if hd-rec app works on os4 on x1000 with camd.library installed. And also try out plugins etc and see if it works. This and arteffect are the least ones i want to work so i can replace my A1. Dont want to have more then one amigasystem in my room.

@Kicko hold your horses

 Re: First Contact : AmigaOne X1000 Limited Edition
Seems 2GB is no longer the standard configuration. Ha I'll have more RAM in my AmigaOne 500 than when this is released. Why does more memory have to be an option?

Stick to your original specification, 2GB is enough for any user, Mac, PC or Amiga. 2GB should be the minimum standard.

£1700 + OS4 @ £100 + VAT @ 20% = £2160.

For what it is... no thanks, I'll stick to my Mac and SAM440.

 Re: First Contact : AmigaOne X1000 Limited Edition
Great news, but if you make a limited edition you should make it special. What's the special part here ??

I think Acube did bad with the X500 and this time it's AEON with the X1000 limited edition

What is it with you guys, why don't you think harder about these things before releasing stuff. Eventually ask the users before you do it, or read a marketing book, or hire a company to help.

the X500 could have been a killer config if it was slightly more advanced than the 460 (and a great case like the mini X1000 case or fantasy case or something)

The X1000 limited edition could have been a killer seller if there was something special to purchase (collectors edition stuff) -

You guys who are in charge of this really should get help for the future, otherwise you end up looking like amateurs like amiga.inc - but hey wait, they actually we're rather good at marketing, they just forgot to deliver the goods.

Look all I'm saying is that the AmigaOS platform deserves THE BEST, both in advertising, marketing, hardware, OS features, etc.

And I'm having a very hard time seeing obvious mistakes being made to such a small market.

My A4000 (which didn't include a golden keyboard either) was about the same price as the X1000. Considering inflation, I paid over $4000 (in todays $) for my A4000. When I buy an X1000 I'll be getting a much more powerful machine at a much lower price.

That's the equivalent choice that most people made between the A4000 and A1200. However, many A1200 users ended up spending as much money upgrading their A1200 with faster processors, memory and other addons.

@Hondo

There is no X500 as far as I know. You meant A1-500 I guess.

And for the price, evreyone is entitled to buy what he or she can afford (I personnaly can't).

This is anyway a good step forward for the AmigaOne brand.

 Re: First Contact : AmigaOne X1000 Limited Edition
Why are some people complaining about being given a CHOICE? Yes it is expensive, but you are not forced to buy it! If you can't afford it (I can't afford/justify a Lotus sports car), then the Sam460 is a nice machine by most accounts.

Hopefully knowing the price will allow people to choose whether to wait for the X1000 or go for a Sam460.

P.S. It is certainly "north of £1500"!

Yeah, that's fair enough. I had/have an A1200, A600 and an A4000 but when I spend money on them, that was the Amiga's heyday when there were a lot of big-name companies investing in the computer too, whether in hardware or software.

Amiga's are now just hobbies which, really when you think about it, don't have any serious software/capabilities that other machines/OS's do much better.

I'm not saying that people shouldn't spend serious money on their hobbies, the amount of Les Pauls I own are a testament to that (I'll never be a serious musician) but the X1000 is just not for me. Others however, I'm sure will get lots of enjoyment our of having such a power machine to run AmigaOS on and they should relish this news!

Just my 2p worth!

Because they want to buy it, just not for 3000-3300 USD (with all the taxes and stuff). I personally was in hope about something like 1999$ for full mobo :) That also not cheap, but at least real in compare with sam460.

Through, hope they will sold many.

 Re: First Contact : AmigaOne X1000 Limited Edition
@kas1e

I'm pretty sure everyone would want it to be cheaper. Even Trvor himself. Butif i remember right the cpu alone was very ecpensive. So an x2000 will hopefully be a lot cheaper. Say half price of the x1000 would be a very good thing.
1699£ is about 15k nok. With taxes(25% ) we're at 18500. The cheapest mac pro starts at 28000nok. So around 20000nok fot the x1000 is expensive enought. Was hoping for 15000 with taxes. But i will still buy it.
Looking from the amiwest now. And must say i miss amiga. Have no amiga just now.

I think Mr. Hermans have said many times X1000 is a collectors item and not for everybody. (Like Mac Cube was targeted to executives years ago.)

Not that I can afford one, but there is no link at AmiKit website to preorder (yet)

And why Limited edition has only 1GB RAM? (only for the high end machine) when final should have 2GB? For such expensive machine adding a GB RAM module couldn`t hurt the profit

 Re: First Contact : AmigaOne X1000 Limited Edition
Yes this is more expensive than hoped for but compared to the A1000 when that was launched all those years ago then this has to be quite good value.

I also read on OSNews that there is going to be an Amiga laptop,

 Re: First Contact : AmigaOne X1000 Limited Edition
Steep !
even if you take the small market, and scale factors into account, its quite a lot of cash, in anybody's book.

How much will the standard edition be when released, and will there be a slightly more <ahem> budget version ?
