Internet News : IOSPIRIT GmbH quits the Amiga market

Internet News

IOSPIRIT GmbH ends its Amiga business on the 1st of April 2007.

In the future, IOSPIRIT GmbH will be focusing solely on its Mac? products. In order to better serve the needs of that market and to be able to process incoming orders faster and more efficiently, a reimplementation of the shop system is currently being worked on.

The reasons for the decision to no longer operate in the Amiga market are as follows:

* we want to fully commit to developing Mac? products in the future.
* the big additional overhead that would be necessary to integrate (permanent) support for download and package versions of Amiga software into the new concept and the drawbacks that would come with this for the majority of our customers - which today are Mac? users.
* the decreasing demand for Amiga products and the the situation of the Amiga market in general.

IOSPIRIT's own Amiga titles will no longer be available beyond April, 1st, 2007 - except of course for remaining stock at dealers. The future distribution as well as development and support of IBrowse will be handled directly by the IBrowse development team. You can find their website at http://www.ibrowse-dev.net/.

FxPaint looks interesting, is there an OS4 native version of it?

[Edit] Just read that there isn't one. Ohh well.

Sad news indeed, I hope they'll donate the source of their products to someone or release it as opensource. FXScan with it's usb support is really needed on OS4, FXPaint isn't bad either

@orgin

Nope, but there is a wos version although you'll have to boot into pre4 to use it. but it's not much faster than the 68k version on OS4 final petunia.

@sinisrus

FxScan uses the BetaScan API. The Epson USB scanner was based on the SANE driver which is open-source. The problem lies in the iousbscanner.device which crashes on OS4 (it's designed for the Poseidon stack). The source-code is provided with the EpsonUSB driver.

This could be fixed, even if IOSpirit don't give us the source code. Someone would need to figure out what the iousbscanner.device did and write a replacement. I have too many other projects going to take this one on though.

hi Orgin

FxPaint 2.0 was reasonable until the Updates killed it. I bought it the MegaBungle two years back. It's not a happy thing to see, but Amiga is 'washing out'!

None of these apps had been developed for some while. Maybe someone else will take over distribution and development of these apps. Like Alinea have with H&P's products.

FX scan and VHI studio would certainly be useful. VHI could be the basis for video editing on Amiga.
