I could restore the connection copying the old bsdsocket.library from a back up. There is some problem with the new one, be careful !

Re: AmigaOS 4.1 Update 4 available now
I'm not sure why there is no direct link to the news item.
Anyway, here's a direct quote from it: Quote: The following new functionality and bug fixes are included in Update 4: I'm personally very happy to finally see Update 4 released, not least because it now means that RunInUAE can 'automagically' get all the necessary emulation files from AmigaOS4 itself |

Re: AmigaOS 4.1 Update 4 available now
Do we have to have a clean install of update 3 first?
Or can I just bang 4 on? "Added RunInUAE" functionality. Does it mean I have to remove the one I have installed at the moment? Thanks! And cool news! |

Re: AmigaOS 4.1 Update 4 available now
* New scsi.device patch for Classic installations which enables SCSI drives to be used for memory paging (SWAP).
This is for Internal IDE drives hosted off the native controller, using scsi.device. The new kicklayout adds the line Module Kickstart/A1200/scsi.device_ppc.kmod to your kicklayout-A1200 and for A4000's Module Kickstart/A4000/scsi.device_ppc.kmod to your kicklayout-A4000 Module Kickstart/A4000T/scsi.device_ppc.kmod to your kicklayout-A4000T |

Re: AmigaOS 4.1 Update 4 available now
You need update to add 2, 3 then 4 in that order.
You can't go straight from 1 to 4 or 2 to 4 for example. AS for runinuae, that would best be answered by ChrisH, but it does have an uninstaller as part of the archive. |

"Added RunInUAE" functionality. You SHOULD be able to just install "over the top" of any existing RunInUAE, just like you could with previous releases. NOTE: If you *previously* chose to create a Fake Workbench, and when reinstalling RunInUAE you choose to "reuse all your previous installation choices", then you will still have a Fake Workbench. P.S. I do NOT recommend using the new UNinstaller with older versions of RunInUAE (it may work but I haven't tested it). |

Chris,
It asked do you want to install RunInUae, I said yes, now I get: "It looks like RunInUAE is already installed. Do you want to reuse all your previous installation choices?" Shall I select Yes? @Samo I didn't know about netsurf! I'll give it a go, is it better than OWB-MUI? |

"It looks like RunInUAE is already installed. Do you want to reuse all your previous installation choices?" That's up to you As I tried to explain in my last post: The only downside (that I can think) of choosing "Yes" is that it won't replace your Fake Workbench3.1 with a real one (if you chose to create a Fake Workbench with the previous version of RunInUAE). If the use of a Fake Workbench3.1 did not cause a problem for you, then why not keep it? You can always reinstall RunInUAE later if you want. |

Re: AmigaOS 4.1 Update 4 available now
Thanks Chris.
I clicked Yes to everything and rebooted. I have updated to Update 4. Yes! Double clicked on Pang.adf and my monitor gave me an out of range error. Before I used to get a small screen (with the game running in it) surronded by white. Has the resolution changed?! |

Before I used to get a small screen (with the game running in it) surronded by white. That was a bug, caused by either the required screen resolutions not being added, or else them being ignored since Update 3. Quote: my monitor gave me an out of range error Then you have not told AmigaOS4 the correct specification of your monitor (i.e. the allowed horizontal & vertical rates). You can do that from Sys:Prefs/ScreenMode in the Monitors tab. EDIT: I have updated RunInUAE's (on-line) manual with better instructions on how to do this: http://cshandley.co.uk/runinuae/#6_1 Or alternatively you can enable "Detect settings automatically" (also in the Monitors tab). But BEFORE YOU DO THAT, make sure that you Remove (not just untick!) the 320x240 & 320x256 resolutions from the list. After doing all that, click "Save Monitor". And then reinstall RunInUAE (using your existing settings). EDIT: As this has a small chance to cause problems with booting, please make sure you have a backup way to boot OS4, such as a CD or backup partition. OR ALTERNATIVELY, if you have a fast enough machine (not Sam440s if you can help it), you can just tell RunInUAE to use a 640x480 screenmode. Open RunInUAE, click on it's window, and from the menu choose "Settings > Set default screen size to > 640x480". |

Re: AmigaOS 4.1 Update 4 available now
Yet another release for the classic amigas without BPPC SCSI support.Smart move (once again)
Mmm i almost got wet on my pants while dreaming on the lighting speed of my 1200´s IDE doing system mem swapping. C´mon Hyperion. OS4 on classics, evidently, only runs on ppc machines, which its 80% are 1200 ppc and a good number of those got a nice fast scsi 2 interface on board. Release a driver for it now. |

Re: AmigaOS 4.1 Update 4 available now
@TheDaddy Quote:
I can tell that the SAM has booted into Workbench but there is no display, just a black screen. Yikes . That sounds like an AmigaOS4 or Sam460-specific bug in detecting the correct monitor range. Is your monitor connected directly to your Amiga? What graphics card do you use? You will have to boot from another OS4 partition (if you have a backup one), or else an OS4 CD (or whatever Sam460s come with). Then go to your main OS4 partition, open the Devs/Monitors folder, click on the icon for your graphics, and use the "Icons > Information..." menu. This should open a new window. Go to it's Icon tab, find the DDCMODE tooltype line, and put rounded brackets around it. So you should get something like (DDCMODE=ALL) . Save that, then try booting OS4 normally. EDIT: If you don't have an easy way to boot OS4, then you COULD try a different monitor. EDIT: If you don't have an easy way to boot OS4, then you can try this possible solution. It will only work if you use SFS and not FFS for your boot partition. Start AmigaOS4 without any Startup-Sequence (hold down both mouse buttons just before the OS4 boot logo would appear, to get a grey boot screen with that option). Then type the following command: List Devs:Monitors This should show what your graphics card is called, typically "Radeon SOMETHING". Using that name, type the following command exactly: Copy "Sys:.recycled/Radeon SOMETHING.info" TO Devs:Monitors If there were no errors, then it hopefully worked, and you can try rebooting. |

AAMP in Update 4:
Refer to this script: Wait SECS=1 If NOT {SILENT} If ${AAMP/LANG} EQ "de" RequestChoice >NIL: TYPE INFO "Start_AAMP.bat" "MySQL und Apache Webserver gestartet (native Versionen)*n*nServer können mit dem Skript *"Stop_AAMP.bat*" gestoppt werden." "OK" EndIf EndIf This code executes for some reason now in Start_AAMP.bat, well not only once, but twice. Previously it never showed at all in Update 3. I've change Wait to 3 seconds, hope that will remove the problem on next reboot. |

Hmm... I'm sure I replied to this already. Oh well, attempt 2. Quote: Downloading and testing NetSurf! In Preferences, Rendering tab, you need to set the DPI value (calculated as height of your monitor in inches, divided by vertical number of pixels). If that doesn't solve it, you can increase the minimum and default font heights on the Fonts tab. |

went into AmigaOS:Devs/Monitors/Radeon M9, clicked on icon. Hmmm, that does NOT make sense. It should have a DDCMODE line somewhere (usually near the top), if you enabled "Detect settings automatically". Otherwise I do not know why you are getting no video output. Are you sure you didn't DISABLE (untick) "Detect settings automatically"??? That would explain everything! In that case please add the line "DDCMODE=ALL" (without quotes!) under the first two lines. Otherwise, perhaps you can post your problem (with FULL details of the changes you made) on Hyperion's forum, to get more expert help. |

Re: AmigaOS 4.1 Update 4 available now
OK I can't get the OS to work again so I am reinstalling from OS4.1 CD allthe way to upd4.
Question: My monitor is connected via DVI-HDMI cable (DVI on the SAM440 to HDMI on the back of the monitor). And it's been working fine. Now I am reinstalling OS4.1 and it's asking me to put the frequencies in. Horizontal and Vertical. I have checked the manufacturer's website and it says: Horizontal Frequency (Max) KHz VGA/HDMI: 15kHz ~ 83 DVI-DL: 30 ~ 140 Vertical Frequency (Max)Hz VGA / HDMI: 24Hz ~ 120 DVI-DL: 56 ~ 120 What do I put in Min Horiz Max Horiz and Min Vert and Max Vertical? 15000 and 83000? and 24000 and 120000? Any help appreciated. |

Installed update 4. The only strange thing I have noticed is with MUI version of OWB ... when I log into this website, I cannot post, unless I click "Rember Me" during login. If I do not click "Remember Me" I do not see any reply buttons or Post Comment buttons.
Going back to some other sites to see if it is the same there. OK same thing at amiga.org but no problems at amigaworld.net I guess I haven't used MUI-OWB for awhile. --- redfox |

From OS4.1, upd1, upd2, upd3 and 4. I tried running Pang.adf again and it says Out of Range...so I have changed both settings in UAE to 640 and it displays now but it fills the whole screen stretching the graphics (blocky)... |

@TheDaddy
I think those values are correct, bit weird notation in the specs though. For the lower resolutions you might need to add a D. This is what I was advised to do when those sort of modes stopped working after Update 3. eg. in my tooltypes for Devs:Monitors/Radeon M9 are: MODE=320x240@75D MODE=400x300@65D |

@Chris
Do you mean the monitor ones? I think the vertical should be 24 and 120 and not 24000 and 120000 am I correct in thinking that it's Vertical Hz we are talking about and not KHz? The horizontal I have put 15000 and 83000. Is it correct? |

They are all in Hz I believe, so yes, vertical max should be 120 not 120000 :) |

Re: AmigaOS 4.1 Update 4 available now
Thanks ChrisH, I'll give that a go.
The only thing I worry is that Timberwolf will require hardware composition and the Radeon HD drivers have still yet to be released publicly. I don't wanna be in the situation were everyone else is running TW just fine and I cannot. |

In RunInUAE (running on its own) Settings/Set Default Screen size to. What should it be? |

Re: AmigaOS 4.1 Update 4 available now
I think it was the Disabling Detect Settings Automatically but I could be wrong.
I did both at the same time so I guess we won't know. I can manage to run RunInUAE now but only at 640 and it fills the screen (stretches it, so the graphics look blocky). Sorry Happy Christmas by the way! |

Re: AmigaOS 4.1 Update 4 available now
Everything is running fine in RuninUAE, I don't get the small screen in the centre surrounded by white as I used to before update 4. Was that 320 or a well displayed 640?
Now I can only run in 640 which fills my 24" screen and stretches the graphics...if I try 320 I get an out of range from my monitor...ARGH! Anyone? |

Re: AmigaOS 4.1 Update 4 available now
@TheDaddy
RunInUAE is *supposed* to be full-screen! i.e. like a real Amiga However, if you really wish to reinstate the unintended old behaviour (i.e. 50% shrunk), then you need to disable the new 320x... resolutions added by RunInUAE, reboot, and then tell RunInUAE to use 320x256. (Since no 320x256 resolution will be available, E-UAE will pick the smallest available resolution, typically 640x480, thus 320x256 will take-up half the 640x480 screen.) The simplest way to disable the new 320x... resolutions is to start Sys:Prefs/ScreenMode, go to the Monitor tab, untick those resolutions, and then click Save Monitor. If you find that the "Manual settings" are greyed-out (so you cannot untick them), then you will need to *temporarily* untick "Detect settings automatically" (i.e. tick it again before clicking Save Monitor). |

Re: AmigaOS 4.1 Update 4 available now
Hi Chris,
I want it to run in full screen and it does but only for 640x480 but it's all stretched so the graphics look blocky is this normal? The 320 resolutions don't work at all. If I try running the 320 resolutions I get an Out Of Frequency from the monitor... How can I run the 320 resolutions? And how can I run the 640 resolutions without making the graphics look blocky? Have you tried it? Do you get blocky graphics at 640? This is my Radeon M9 in Devs/Monitors CMPLENGTH=9 BOARDNAME=Radeon M9 VSYNCMIN=24 VSYNCMAX=120 HSYNCMIN=15000 HSYNCMAX=83000 MODE=640x480@60 MODE=1280x720@60 MODE=800x600@60 MODE=1280x720@60 MODE=1024x768@60 MODE=1280x720@60 MODE=1920x1080@60+RB MODE=1920x1080@120+RB MODE=320x240@60 MODE=320x256@60 FAKENATIVEMODES=No INTERRUPT=Yes Anything I can do to let the monitor display 320 res? Thanks |

Re: AmigaOS 4.1 Update 4 available now
@TheDaddy
As previously discussed, "Out of Frequency" type error messages from your monitor (for 320x... resolutions) mean that AmigaOS4 doesn't know the correct horizontal/vertical frequency range supported by your monitor. I have updated my (online) documentation regarding this: http://cshandley.co.uk/runinuae/#6_1 Quote: for 640x480 but it's all stretched so the graphics look blocky is this normal? As I don't know what your display looks like, it is hard to say. But it *is* normal that showing an (emulated) 320x.... will look more blocky on LCD than you may remember a real Amiga looking on a CRT monitor or TV. This issue is discussed more in RunInUAE's manual here: http://cshandley.co.uk/runinuae/#6_14 and http://cshandley.co.uk/runinuae/#6_15 Please note that when you are using a WIDESCREEN monitor, *if* it is stretching 640x480 (etc) to the full width of your screen, then it will *of course* look stretched. I bought a non-widescreen monitor to avoid all such issues, so it is difficult for me to advise on how to avoid this. I *believe* that this problem will not happen if you use "Detect settings automatically" (but please carefully read http://cshandley.co.uk/runinuae/#6_1 ). If you can't use "Detect settings automatically", then one idea I have is: Replace your 640x480 resolution with one that is not stretched by your widescreen monitor (i.e. it's aspect ratio is correct). For example, if your LCD monitor's native resolution is 1920x1080, then instead of 640 you should use 480*1920/1080 = 853, thus you should disable 640x480 (and possibly 800x600) and create an 853x480 resolution. E-UAE *should* then use this, without unnaturally stretching the display. Quote: MODE=320x240@60 BTW, these are WRONG, and should NOT have been added by RunInUAE. They are missing a "D" on the end, and so should look like this: Quote: MODE=320x240@60D I wonder if Sys:Prefs/ScreenMode doesn't support "D", and so removed them? |

Re: AmigaOS 4.1 Update 4 available now
Chris,
This is the monitor and these are its specs: BenQ XL2410T Screen Size 24" Wide LED-backlight Resolution (max.) 1920 x 1080 Response Time (tr/tf) 2 ms (GtG) Display Color 16.7 million Terminals D-sub / DVI-D-DL/ HDMI / headphone jack Horizontal Frequency (Max) KHz VGA/HDMI: 15kHz ~ 83 DVI-DL: 30 ~ 140 Vertical Frequency (Max)Hz VGA / HDMI: 24Hz ~ 120 DVI-DL: 56 ~ 120 Video Bandwidth (MHz) 330 From what I can see it should be able to display low resolutions. The blockyness is present at 640 as 320 won't display. This is what is present in ScreenMode preferences after selecting Radeon M9 Monitors: 640x480@60 1280x720@60 800x600@60 1024x768@60 1280x720@60 1920x1080@60+RB 1920x1080@120+RB 320x240@60 320x256@60 Enable Interrupts ticked Refresh Rates: Minimum VSync 50 Maximum VSync 120 Minimum HSync 28000 Maximum HSync 83000 For all of the above. But if I click on Available Modes (always in ScreenMode preferences) only the 320x256 is present, no 320x240 and the 320x256 reports Horizontal frequency 15.70KHz but vertical 59Hz. |

This is a bit late, but I am continuing RunInUAE discussions in a separate thread, rather than fill the Update 4 one with more rubbish:
