Re: IRC session med Hans-Joerg Frieden
Lots of good and interesting news-bits.
Oh, and i will gladly pay 100 euro for the OS4 box for my earlybird system, sort of to support Hyperion. And yes, i have already updated to the microA1-cd. Thanks for the IRC Hans-J?rg. |

Re: IRC session med Hans-Joerg Frieden
I thought the mystery device was revealed as the IBM PDA (reference design) a long time ago?
Apart from CD's with OS4.0 being close there's not much new stuff in this QA. But atleast it's a sign of life. |

@Rogue
Do we get to trade in our pre-release CDs for the proper CD in the big box with the manual? Thanks for the interview. |

Re: IRC session med Hans-Joerg Frieden
@HJ & Thomas
Thank you for taking the time to answer the questions. Even if there were not any news about new hardwares, it was great to hear a sign of life again. It is even harder now for us because you have decided to post less on the forums. I can understand this. So every news is very welcome! Let's hope that Hyperion will soon make an agreement with Amiga Inc about the future of OS4! When that has happened, SAM can not be far away. I still hope that SAM will be released for Christmas. Maybe I am unrealistic but I don't care! If peoples stop dreaming it's all over. |

Re: IRC session med Hans-Joerg Frieden
@Chris
As I said, I am not really the right person to ask. @bean I hope developers will like the support for shared objects, it's going to make a few things easier, although I have to say that right now, there is one flaw in the design - the code is not really shared but loaded for each program separately (per process, so a module for Python that links against libpython.so will use the in-memory copy of the main program). In a future version, we will try to support real shared code, too. Other than that, the shared objects work exactly like in UNIX (semantically they are identical). It means that this makes it way easier to use LGPL'ed code in non-GPL programs. |

@Rogue
Thanks for all the work you are putting into the shared object support. Anything that makes the leverage of Linux code easier is a great move. The new graphics engine you are thinking about sounds like a great idea as well. Cheers! |

That's a major breaktrough, great work! Means mplayer could use external codecs form Linux for example (when recompiled propperly with new SDK)? [dream]If only Adobe released their flash plugin for ppc...slap[/dream] Jack |

The topic should contain "with" and not "med" (too much copy-paste?) Jack |

Re: IRC session med Hans-Joerg Frieden
@Jack
Don?t think that imply that you can use Linux .so files automatically whit out recompiling, but it should make it easier to port larger Linux applications, that depends on shard .so files, sense porting .so files should be as easy as replacing some Linux dependent stuff (file IO/terminal IO/ device IO / fork() / clone() ) and recompile the so files. Wring devices and library?s takes a lot of time, this should shorten the development process. |
