Re: AbiWord 2.8.6 for AmiCygnix released
Very good news for ISO-8859-1/15 users. Unfortunately AbiWord is another tool from the long list of unfriendly for polish ISO-8859-2 charset.
It is very important to be able to write polish special characters in program like AbiWord Any hope? Localization is OK, though.... Its probably AmiCygnix bug not AW? PS. One of the Polish betatesters found this... http://x.cygwin.com/docs/faq/cygwin-x ... -non-U.S.-keyboard-layout Is it useful? |

Re: AbiWord 2.8.6 for AmiCygnix released
Thanks works perfect and it's even much more faster than the previous version, you can easily write documents, nice speed, thanks. But I encountered one problem with printing. I just wrote some lines to print, chose print my HP printer printed it as it should be, but after the printing finished, my Amiga froze completely. I don't know if that's a bug of AbiWord or of the HP driver (although I don't have such a problem with other tools when I choose to print).

Re: AbiWord 2.8.6 for AmiCygnix released
Edgar,
Thank you. This addresses two issues for me. Wordperfect and Hebrew. I use WP X5 at work, and also have occasion at times to write some Hebrew text. I'm anxious to try out the WP import ability, compared to the older version. If I remember, the last version didn't do some of my formatting so well. Paul |

Well, also some support for different localizations and char types (Serbian in my case) needs to be done, but yes, finally we can see Word 2007+ documents

I have not much knowlege about foreign keyboard layouts and how to configure the X server to use other layouts. I cannot say, if there is a problem with the X server. The only known problem is, that the server does not support the Alt key. Because of this a workaround exists for GTK+ programs (see myX11Setup). In other words: I first need to know, how it has to work before I can fix it. |

If yes, you could test the print utility by launching "lpr <psfilename>" in a shell. Does it also crash? |

The serbian localisation should work. I think you've found a bug. I'll try to fix it. |

I brought in a 12 page paper I had written with several fonts, plus some colored font areas. It looked perfect! I haven't tried any Hebrew yet. I tried importing a .docx file I had sitting on my drive, it gave me a DSI. When I tried to click away the DSI, it froze up solid. I had to reboot with the case button. edit: I found another .docx and importing worked fine. Paul |

I've found the bug that prevents the use of the serbian localisation. I can PM a download link with the fixed binary if you like. @ mr2 Quote: All polish special characters are alt+letter combinations Then there is maybe a problem in my GTK+ workaround, let me check this. I think you like to like to test the results?? @ Paul Great news about Wordperfect! Could you send me the problematic .docx file or is it private? @mufa The link was already mentioned above. It was interesting to read, but I'm afraid that it will not help me to understand the problem. |

Yes, I'm ready to help When your workaround is turned on alt+key combination works but gives wrong results. It is very similar to the other, not polish friendly apps.
Let me try to check somethink out. I'll be back this evening... |

Re: AbiWord 2.8.6 for AmiCygnix released
Hello CygnusEd :
Is it possible to use for example the "ê" character on AbiWord ? I don't succeed to write it. Thank again for your ports |

With the new plugin "OpenXML" you can now load and save documents in .docx format (MS Word 2007+). When I tried to install this plugin I get an 'install failed' ,message! Is there a special way to get this correctly installed? Edit: Can someone explain step by step how to install plug-ins as I am having problems? |

Re: AbiWord 2.8.6 for AmiCygnix released
@ zzd10h
Seems to be the same problem like mr2's problem. I'm working on it. What do you have to type normally to get this character? @ sicky There is no need to install this plugin, all plugins are included in the program binary and are avtivated by default. Just open the requester and choose a .docx file! |

Re: AbiWord 2.8.6 for AmiCygnix released
@ mr2
I have an important question. Does everything work on OS4 with e.g. Notepad for you? I use the systems keymap for keyboard support. If this doesn't work correctly, it also doesn't work with AmiCygnix too. |

Re: AbiWord 2.8.6 for AmiCygnix released
The problem is very similar to TW and MUI OWB, almost the same, except one key...
Notepad is OK. http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b22 ... 1/AbiWord_zpsd4829dd2.jpg |

Re: AbiWord 2.8.6 for AmiCygnix released
I have played a little with AmiCygnix. I installed AmiCygnix Tools (to change a fonts size) and found Gucharmap. It shows all polish special characters. When I click details it says some codes and UTF-8/16 encoding. We use ISO-8859-2.
http://pl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kodowanie_polskich_znak%C3%B3w Maybe something ISO to UTF related? |

Re: AbiWord 2.8.6 for AmiCygnix released
@ mr2
No, I don't think so. There must be a problem interpreting the systems keymap. The strange thing is, that I get complete other results in AbiWord, if I set AmiCygnix to polish language and ISO-8859-2 charset. I must do some more tests. |

Could you send me the problematic .docx file or is it private? I was going to put it on a USB stick so I could take it to work and find out what the contents were -private or not. The title led me to think that it was a confidential matter. To my surprise, it turned out to be a zip file, not a .docx, although it had a .docx extension on it. I know who sent it to me, and he wouldn't knowingly send a virus, but I'm guessing that his email might have been hacked, and that might be what happened. Sorry for the false alarm. Paul |

docx ARE zip files! Look at them in an Amiga. You will deflate them with unarc and access all the files included
