Re: Introducing Software Essentials for AmigaOS
Elihayu: unfortunatley, you've included some material without authorization (I've contacted you on Intuition Base).
For the Pack Ultimate (on MorphOS), Papiosaur asked every one if he could include their programs in order to avoid any kind of problem. I know it's a non profit project (and a nice one) but maybe some authors have other projects with their own programs. |

Re: Introducing Software Essentials for AmigaOS
@K-L
sorry about that. since huno's two games that are included (hurrican and zelda) were available on os4depot as well as other sites, it never occurred to me that there would be any issue. nonetheless if hunoppc does not want his games included, of course i would happy to remove them and re-release. my apologies for the mistake. -- eliyahu |

Re: Introducing Software Essentials for AmigaOS
I don't recall you asking for permission to include SketchBlock in that package.
Please remove it. Moreover not only have you not asked for permision you haven't included ProAction which sketchblock requires, anyone using it will get a wrong impression of the software as much of the functionality will be inaccessible. Nor PIL Including it in a list of must haves with a link to the latest version is one thing but I don't want any of my software included in bloatware, distros like these. |

Re: Introducing Software Essentials for AmigaOS
Does your installer do version checking on library installs?
In the past at least one author provided his app with an old camd.library and an install script that would overwrite an existing newer camd. This caused a lot of unexpected troubles. Just asking.. Hopefully this is handled better this time. |

Re: Introducing Software Essentials for AmigaOS
@thread
it's clear i've made a mistake in releasing this collection without getting the 'OK' from authors of all of the software included. i'm sorry i overlooked so many people in requesting permission. i had sent out emails to many, but apparently there were several i didn't, including some of the library owners. i am removing the ISOs and associated pages forthwith. i'll ask the few sites which announced this to remove their news items. i am very, very sorry. -- eliyahu |

Re: Introducing Software Essentials for AmigaOS
The idea is pretty good.
Just ask permissions and do another try. Also I would like such DVD with softwares usable immediately, i.e. with no installation needed. With AmigaOS and its commands, it's easy to achieve this. |

Re: Introducing Software Essentials for AmigaOS
FWIW I'm fine with my software being included in collections like this. I doubt I can stop you anyway, as I never put distribution restrictions in (and I suspect this is the same for a lot of free software). I would take offence if it was being charged for though.
I'm not sure if there was even anything of mine on the DVD bar NetSurf (which is GPL, so would be OK - although it's not me you need to ask for that one), but you have my permission now. I'd appreciate if you could mention where to obtain the latest versions (my website, generally) as CDs like this tend to get out-of-date quite quickly. |

Re: Introducing Software Essentials for AmigaOS
@eliyahu
While I personally have no interested in this CD, I think it is a great initiative for new OS4 users . On the downside it could become a big burden to keep it maintained (although probably can be automated a bit), so try to be selective in which software you add (if not already!). BUT I HAVE AN ALTERNATIVE SUGGESTION: Rather than storing the latest (but soon outdated) version of software on the CD, would it not be better to have a simple installer script which allows you to tick the software you want installed, then it downloads the latest version from OS4Depot & runs the relevant installers? This has several other benefits: 1. Maintaining this becomes much much less work, since you only have to change it when someone moves the path of their installer inside their archive (and it is easy to have your machine detect this completely automatically). 2. No need to ask the authors for permission (since it is technically the user downloading & installing the software). Although it would still be polite to ask for permission. 3. The user won't have to install stuff they aren't interested in. 4. The user doesn't have to download & mount/burn a huge ISO, but rather only let the installer download the software they want. |

Re: Introducing Software Essentials for AmigaOS
To say truth, there is not so many quality and os4-native apps on our os today. And, imho, they all just should be listed on amigaos.net in "applications". So no needs for packs, for pages, just all in one place. Sadly that currently there is apps on it which not fits in "quality" and "must have" , and there is some which fits but missed. But i hope it will be changed one day.
I.e. better help/annoy amigaos.net devs, to make "application" area better. Imho of course. |

Re: Introducing Software Essentials for AmigaOS
oh please, this is a great idea !
We need a website that allows all authors to upload and allow to use software in distros. simple really alot of good software will never be used or seen if always worry about permissions. If author passes away, then what ? delete all their work ? give me a break ! |
