Re: Amiga Mania #6
How many active Amigans is there in Hungary?
Pretty cool to have a dedicated magazine for such a relatively small language. |

Re: Amiga Mania #6
About 20-30 copies we sell directly to users. downloads are several hundreds, including users outside Hungary.
Sadly in comparison with the native speakers, the active users are meaning just extremely small group. :I |

Re: Amiga Mania #6
Just have a look at flash version: very quality. Cool.
But so much effort for such small group of Hungarian amiga users .. I do not know, even "bad" English is better than completely different language. Just translate it even by google-translate,+ fix some very visibly parts. At least users will only moan about bad English, in compare with "yeah, looks good, can't read a #OOPS#" :) It looks and feels quality, just English is must. Sadly or not, but its only one language which make all of us who in interest in amiga stuff to understand each others. Making today anything in other language its just wrong imho. Quality stuff should be avail for all , not just for 20 pplz. With English you will have at least 200-300. Quality always bring interest. |

Re: Amiga Mania #6
The base point was to serve the hungarian users. It makes no sense if it is a group of 20 or a million. All of us, who remained, feel the nostalgic spirit which we felt in the early nineties. I like all magazines, but sometimes I'm tired of reading anything in foreign languages, although it doesn't really cause problem for me. And this has no offense, just simplicity. I'll always remember about Amiga Format back in the hey-days, when I was unable to understand nor translate with Google or whatever, any articles. It's not a payback-thing, just we think we deserve a magazine with quality.
I had a new idea regarding translation, but have to check if it works or not. I'd be really proud to share our mag with everyone, but quality doesn't mean good page layouts or photos, but correctly translated texts. Otherwise it just embarrassing me, as we want to create something professional. Dumb english translation just kills our expectations. On the other hand, I don't think that any language has advantage or privilege against others. I don't want to open up, but I feel that this problem gave us games like Biing!, Erben Die Erde and Wet, which games are available in english on other platforms, but still, we have to play 'em in german. If you visit the EAB forum, from time to time there is a game which is under translation. Besides of german to english, there are others which have had to be done for english speakers (from polish, for example.) Still, it doesn't means that we're against to translate, but we have no money to cover this issue JIT before the release, even if I believe that if we just translate one issue, the rest could be "sponsored" from it's income. |

?:) Why then promote mag on english speaking boards ? I assume because you want to make ppls know that there is mag. So, if you make those newses for english speaking amiga users, then its logical to think that the same make sense to have mag in english. So it does make a sense to make it for bigger audience, not for smaller. Even if it "spirit, nostalgy" and so on. In end of all you promote it on english boards. I see no reassons why you need that, if its enough for you to have 20 hungarian users. |
