Huno wishes us a Merry Xmas and offers us one of his greatest work : DarkPlaces for AmigaOS 4.1


DarkPlaces is a vastly enhanced version of Quake I and brings many new features such as the realism of shell casings falling to the floor, much improved bullet impacts, 32bit color alpha blended explosions, blood flying everywhere and sticking to the walls...

Originally programmed by LordHavoc, Huno spent many months optimizing his port to get the game running without any trouble on AmigaOS 4.1.

A 3D card with MiniGL/Warp3D is needed to get the game running (and the original datas of the game of course)

The game can be dwonloaded from Huno's dedicated page or directly from this link

Works very good in 1920x1080. I have sometimes slöwdowns.
The game is very CPU hungry
Please add "CloseWB" when the game starts, this give you some more power for the game.
When i use darkplaces-sdl -quake -sndspeed 44100 -sndbits 16 -bpp 32 -widht 1920 -height 1080
i get everytime only 1440x900 in the game. I have to set it in game menu to 1920x1080
Please fix it in the next version
It is the nicest Quake i ever played :) Grahics are wonderful, sound is very good
multiplayer works too

will this work with third-party art enhancement packs, specifically with versions of rygel's ultra pack? i know it's huge, but heavens, it looks terrific.

i tried to run it with my commercial version of quake so no shareware version of Pak 0 and Pak 1 but it doesn't start here.. It started one time without pak and I was able to see the main menu but then nothing more... I have a Sam440ep mini itx

Weird : Pak0 and Pak1 are indeed in the commercial version (I have them). Maybe you have a specific version ?

I have, I guess, a normal version of Quake1.. it always worked for me, I tried and used the PAK files with differents ports so I guess they are not the problem.. I am able to reach the main menu if I delete the PAK files from the ID1 drawer and run the game from the shell raising the stack to 1000000.. But most of the times it hangs up to the Loading screen and I have to do an hard reset.. My system is a Sam440ep Mini-itx with AmigaOS 4.1FE with all the updates

Are you read a doc ??
You have a low machine (512 Mo) no ??, this version is for a big machine with big fast ram
Please remove all .pk3 on ID1 dir and just add your shareware .pak
And enjoy

hi Huno :-) yes i have red the doc but i wasn't sure on what to delete.. so i have to delete every files inside ID drawer except the pak0 and pak1 files right?

yes we must keep the .pak 2 .pk3 because the textures are too great for the little RAM you have

I tried with only the PAK0 and PAK1 but it hans up at Loading Screen... I runs it in a shell using this sentence: darkplaces-sdl -quake -sndspeed 44100 -sndbits 16 -bpp 32 -widht 640 -height 480
