Ah -- Festivus!
The airing of grievances & feats of strength (and don't forget the aluminum pole!). BTW -- thanks for the update! |

Re: Aminet status update December 2006
I don;'t want to sound ungrateful it just seems odd that the Amiga seems to be the only platform where various incompatible offshoots all get their software thrown into the same directory trees.

Re: Aminet status update December 2006
@Mitch
What other incompatible offshoots have a software repository as good as Aminet? I like the fact it is all together, especially now you can filter it by platform. If I'm looking for any software, I know that searching Aminet will give me everything that will possibly run on my AmigaOne (I have it set to show 68k, WOS, OS4 and Generic), and I can usually find the exact thing I'm after, unless it doesn't exist Much quicker and easier than searching several different archives, or Google. Re: Aminet status update December 2006
@Mitch: historical reasons I guess, and also given that Amigas have evolved in different directions. I guess versiontracker for macs has OSX, 68k MacOS, PPC Mac OS <= 9 and possibly Darwin files too? How about the BeOS world?
Btw. Debian GNU/Linux has support for 9 different platforms, although the sources are more or less compatible, binaries are not. Anyway, you can always use filtering like Chris. Some people also prefer just checking http://aos.aminet.net or http://os4.aminet.net or maybe http://aros.aminet.net ;) There is even http://generic.aminet.net if you are that kind of guy ;D |

True but some platforms think they are Amiga (tm) while others really are. Such a problem does not exist in those other repositories. 'nuff said. |

@nicomen:
What's this "shrimp on the barbie" nonsense? That was an expression invented for the American market. Out here we call them bloody prawns. |

Re: Aminet status update December 2006
Yes, you really see binaries for Windows XP or OS/2 on MacOS archives.
