Resized ImageIt is already known that we try to reprint the English Amiga Guru Book by Ralph Babel.
Some additions were also planned to the original book.

The German Amiga Guru Book is available for some time now.

Nevertheless some Amiga users needed to put some pirated copies of the book online.

The print material is ready and actually we wanted to give it to the printing press.

But since several weeks there is a torrent with a pirated copy of the English Amiga Guru Book online.

Due to the fact that some Amiga users don't show up any support towards those who keep their platform up and try to supply them with information this project is hereby discontinued.

That's why the Amiga Future project AGG which should be financed through the reprint has also been discontinued.

Original statement by Ralph Babel:

Unfortunately, the release of the 800-page extended edition of the Amiga Guru Book (covering OS 3.x and beyond) scheduled for April was preempted by some fool seeding a scan of the older version into one of those pirate-to-pirate networks, eliminating all hopes of me ever being able to recover the cost of a reprint, so the project had to be stopped immediately to avoid further loss of time and money. Thank you, Keith.

What type of book is it? Programmers book or user book?

Edit: Just read on the web page that it's a programmers book. I'd defenitly buy that if it was ever printed (english version). Should be of use even for gcc under os4 I presume?

The guru book fills in (pretty much) all the gaps in the RKMs, stuff like how to write handlers, filesystems and all sorts of stuff, as far as i can tell.

A version updated to just os3.x would still be reasonably useful for OS4 (hell, i was reading my hardcopy RKMs just the other day while developing for OS4).

I would definately have bought a copy

If there was a price available perhaps it would be possible to set up a preorder thingie for it. And if there's enough interested just print it?

uhm,
i think that even if there is a torrent no one prefer a stupid PDF instead a "real" book.
Why don't you ask how many people would buy a copy?
One is mine

I've just created an online petition so we can show Ralph how much we still want a legitimate copy of the Amiga Guru Book in English. Please sign the petition:

Good initiative. Already 19 signatures in the first three hours. But we need (and should easily get) many more. Get over there and sign, guys!

Best regards,

If the rewrite does go ahead, I hope you will get some native English speakers to proof read it :)
