Software News

The text editor Vim 7.0 is now available on OS4-depot.

Vim is a highly configurable text editor built to enable efficient text editing.
It is an improved version of the vi editor distributed with most UNIX systems.
Vim is often called a "programmer's editor," and so useful for programming that
many consider it an entire IDE. It's not just for programmers, though. Vim is
perfect for all kinds of text editing, from composing email to editing
configuration files.

This is the second release of Vim. This has changed compared to the first alpha version:

* Working printer support.
* The execution of external commands is supported now. "Make" and other command are working.
* Working localisation.
* External command "ctags" is now included. Vim does use this command to create source file indexes.
* GTK2 user interface.
* Compiled with "huge" featureset. This adds right to left editing and much more.

Huge thanks, Edgar!

And you forgot to mention syntax highlighting and inline spell-checker

Jack

Edit:

 Re: Vim 7.0 for AmiCygnix released
What makes this version "for AmiCygnix"? Why won't it run without AmiCygnix installed?
There is a 68K version which runs stand-alone, so why is this one different?

@tonyw

as xeron said: The GUI. Here is a screenshot:

The GUI make vim much more comfortable and easier to use.

@Jack

You're right. Mentioned only the changes, but these features are important of course .
