Re: Obligement's Best Games of 2006
Hi,

who i can buy the winning Amiga game for my
Amiga system [OS3.x or OS4] ??

.... i know .. nowhere.

Better rename the Award to MOS-games [all listed games
running IMHO under MOS - and ONLY MOS run ALL Games! ]

This is not sarkastic ... this have nothing to do with "Amiga Game Award"..

Re: Obligement's Best Games of 2006
I tend to agree, this should have been MorphOS game of the year.

Remember Snowbros from the arcade though, funny game!

@Toaks
Ok, take it back seems most games are available for OS4 as well Morphos, apart from the winning and Snowbros...

Separate categories might be an idea though.

You are gonna do this once a year ?, then let me suggest next time to allow voting for more the one week.

Some info on the games would be appreciated too.

Re: Obligement's Best Games of 2006
Hi,

I am not bitching .. this is the reality !
If i make a award with the name "Amiga Games" then
i think this is from Games that RUN on AmigaOS on
machines that designed for AmigaOS !

This is NOT a AmigaOS Clone on a machine that never run AmigaOS
This is not a OS3.x Game that run only with sense on an Emu with an 3GHz+ x86 PC..

This is a Game that I can RUN if i have an Amiga and the OS in the
right version !!
An AGA game is an Amiga game even it is not run on A2000 ...
An OS4 Game is an Amiga Game !

An MOS Game is NOT an Amiga Game .. even i can it run on
classic with PPC card ... the same sense make the statement
all mac games that run on classic[shapeshifter] or AmigaOne[MAConLinux] are Amiga Games !

This is not the fault of the Voters !!

If the rules let vote for purely NON Amiga games .. blame the
initiator of the award .. not the voter !
He take the name "Amiga Game Award" !!
No one force him to doing a false Name ...

If a small ammount of computer user think his OS [MOS]
is the Amiga sucessor and his computer [Peg] is an Amiga then
this is not my problem .. but claim such games for his machines
as "Amiga Game" is wrong and it is no surprise that the
list is a source of flameware !

Would the most user think the small group is right .. the HW would
not collect dust in the stores !!

It is the fault of the Initiator of the award ..
Not from the Voters and Not my !

And i think all games in the list can played on MOS over 68k EMU
or OS4Emu[or the MOS port of the Games] .. and the Nativ winner logical ..
So -> THIS is the MOS Games Award !

Re: Obligement's Best Games of 2006
Extremist b**lsh*t. MOS and OS4 are sons of the Amiga legacy, period. I have OS4, I love OS4 but I know people using MorphOS, using exaclty the same programs as me (FxPaint, SimpleMail, Ibrowse, etc...) so I don't really see the point there.

Daff is using MorphOS regulary but his website (Obligement) has been talking for all the Amiga related news (whether they are about Amiga OS 3.9, Amiga OS4, WinUae, Amithlon, MorphOS ou AROS) for years. He is the only one maintaining a Games Awards website, as far as I know.

If some extremists want to create such a site, then nobody prevent them to do so.

Thanks Daff, keep up the good work

Re: Obligement's Best Games of 2006
Hi,

AmigaOS4 IS the sucessor of the Amiga !
MOS is only clone that was in the discuss of become the
status of the next PPC AmigaOS not less .. NOT MORE !
MOS is a clone and have only the same app base as no
much native apps exist for MOS in this range !
So wich your sense- If become MOS all programms
Native and only for MOS [like sputnik/LunaPaint..]
he is not more an "Amiga System" for you ????

It is ONLY one Amiga system on Planet -PERIOD- !
If the one guy think Amiga is MOS and the other think
Amiga is WinUAE on x86 .. the third think only classic HW
is the Real Amiga .. it is hard to discusse if every think
from other things .. Amiga IS AmigaOS and AmigaOS capable HW !
Not less !

If a person think his incarnation [MOS/WinUAE..] is for him
THe Amiga .. i have no problem with this .. but this is a
SUBJECTIVE view ! Not an OBJECTIVE !
And the "Amiga Games Award" is so SUBJECTIVE .. and musst life
with this flamming !

I can play on Amiga under PC-Task DOS games .. so this are
Amiga Games ?? *LOL*

The extremist are this people that dont understand
simple logic and will have right .. even it is make
no sense ...

I am not against Robin Hood.. i have seen this on a friend
Peg .. and it looks nice [not the best Game from this
genre .. but that is going to Earth too].. but it
is NOT an Amiga Game .. only for a small amount of people.

I agree with K-L. AmigaOS and MorphOS are running side by side on my Amiga 4000T. Why can't people act like this? I don't understand what the problem is.

Re: Obligement's Best Games of 2006
Hi,

if for you MOS your Amiga sucessor is this O.K. and i
have very NO problem with this !
But if the initiator from the list, naming it "Amiga Game.."
and the winning title is imho never playable on this was think
the most user an "Amiga" IS ....

This is the Problem. If the initiator think his MOS-System
is an Amiga it is its opinion and no problem.

But make its opinion as a fact for the whole community
then they come to this Flamefest. One does not have to be very
intelligent to see this comming ... really ....

Re: Obligement's Best Games of 2006
OK guys, i've read a big flamewar over this issue on another website, let's not repeat this flame on this site as well as it's not going to change anything, the game award is over, the results are final, whether you (or me) like it or not. It'd be more constructive to write to the organisers of the award and tell them what you think would make it better/more suitable/etc.

@COBRA

Exactly! Even more constructive would be to create more OS4 games or to donate A1 machine to the developers of Robin Hood.

Like one of the developers (Morgoth) said: "If RuneSoft agrees then I see no problems with doing OS4 version of Robin Hood but I have no HW that is capable of running it".

@ R-TEAM

It just became a flamewar because of some fanatics...thats all. There will always people around who will have problems with anything.

OS4, MorphOS and AROS are all succesors of OS3 and part of Amiga. It may be hard to have others beside the original but thats how it is. Accept it and life will be much more relaxed.

@DJBase

MorphOS, AROS, etc. are all inspired by AmigaOS and are very similar, etc. nobody will argue agains that. However they are not binary compatible to the official AmigaOS line, thus the political questions arise whether you can have an "AmigaOS Game awards winner" game, which does not run on neither AmigaOS 68k (3.x), nor AmigaOS PPC (4.x). But it's better to drop the topic now because these types of discussions always generate flamewars which lead to nowhere.

Thats why it is called "Amiga Games Awards 2006" and not "AmigaOS Games Awards 2006". It doesn't matter if all clones are binary compatible or not for this poll. But yes, better stop any further discussion here.

I was wondering what kind of reaction we'd get from this news item when I approved it. I even went to the trouble of editing the news item to make it neutral.

@daff
Personally, I think MorphOS should find its own place in computing history and exist independently of the Amiga brand. Piggybacking on the Amiga brand only creates confusion and hostility towards the platform. Rename the awards appropriately next year daff.

Re: Obligement's Best Games of 2006
ssolie: A good example is Peugeot and Citroen, they often use the same engine, the same chassis, they share factory, research facility, etc. (there's the company PSA Peugeot Citroen). They even have a compatible diag port in their cars, etc. so they have a lot in common, yet nobody wants to call their Citroen a Peugeot and vica versa, why would they? I'd be silly and confusing. And the "Best Peugeot of the year" is not a Citroen :P This is my take on it, but of course I don't mind anyone calling their favourite computer at home 'Amiga' but a game award is more "public" and "official", thus I understand why some people get confused/upset about it, and this kind of thing always brings up the old "What is Amiga for you or me" flamewar unfortunately. What's especially confusing is that the list doesn't even mention which OS'es each entry runs on, so adding that info would be useful IMHO.

I don't understand where all this fuss is about. At least I don't understand why some people get worked up about this stuffs so much. The game award included games for OS 3.9, OS 4.0 and Morphos. All these three operating system can run on Amiga computers. So why not call this game award "Amiga Games Awards 2006"?
It would only be misleading if they would call it "AmigaOS Games Award". But they didn't.

I hope everybody would calm down and would become more tolerant. There are much more important problems for us Amigans than these stupid and pointless battles. Some peoples are behaving like small children.
