Hardware News

Many people don't know that they can also run various Linuxes on their Amigas. There is a long tradition of doing this from the A3000 UX, through the AmigaONE XE and now the Sam 440ep and Sam flex.

This news isn't usually our metier, as we concentrate on matters AmigaOS 1.3 to AmigaOS 4.x and beyond, but from time to time it is good to keep abreast of what other things we can do with Amiga hardware.

Installed and got some kernel failures eventually resulting in rw errors. Unfortunately fsck could not open sonme libraries and so could not repair. Installing again for another try. Good to see development is still ongoing.

Pretty simple on the SAM. I used Elwood's guide originally.

Re: Debian on your SAM based Amiga
Have a look at A1k.org for pics and more links concerning install of Debian for SAM. At the moment my SAM is at Alinea, so I cannot try the new update.

If you try the old Debian (non experimental Version) I would suggest using KDE as Desktop, seems to be a lot faster... I used Gnome or Xfce. But next time it will definitly be KDE !!!

O.k. here is my Review focused on Linux on SAM:

http://www.a1k.org/forum/showthread.php?t=14463

Ups, forgot... Debian team recently changed something on the download mirrors, donnot know wether this will also affect the EXPERIMENTAL new Version or not. Install Debian from CD only with unplugged Ethernet. Check out this thread:
